XC's quests weren't only fetch quests, there were story quests, timed quests and others, of which are not all fetch quests. I haven't played the game myself but I can say that there were quests where you had to defeat certain monsters, plus, XC and XCX aren't relying on quests, in-case you didn't know, each have their own story, and how you play will most likely be based on that.

As someone who has done virtually all of the quests in Xenoblade Chronicles, its pretty easy to see that they fall into a two main categories. There are the filler quests and the bigger quests. While a lot of those in both categories do make you "fetch" things, I think the two main subsets of quests are all present (Fetch and Kill) with the addition of "Explore" quests. However, while the filler quests tend to not really do much interesting with these and they exist more as something to get experience with, the bigger quests are...well, bigger. They often have a large focus in world building, requiring interactions with multiple NPCs and sometimes some decently interesting morality decisions. They also have effects on the world, causing characters to become different people.

While the actual design of these quests aren't always the most interesting, I think the way that they have you interact with the world does make them memorable and enjoyable and they do a very good job at making otherwise unimportant NPCs memorable.

There were also variants on the kill quest where you were hunting unique monsters which could be interesting, and a lot of the Exploration, whether or not you got a quest for it, was very enjoyable and the secret areas were always enjoyable to find.

XCX can do a lot to improve on the quest system, but Xenoblade's quest system was far from bad and it was pretty much always easy to differentiate between the important quests and the filler quests (also, the fact that you didn't actually have to turn in most quests did a lot to decrease the tedium).

Cities Skylines is definitely a strong contender.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

hmm, I don't think it will but it would be great if it does..

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

New IP's have big chance for GOTY and i expect Bloodborne. And XCX is very subjective and i don't think it will be a GOTY as we already had Bayonetta 2 with high ratings but it could not win last year. Witches 3, Batman, MGS V and Halo 5 have equal chance and it depends on what is something new each of the game brings in next gen game.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Highly unlikely, even though the game will be amazing for sure. I can't really see a jrpg like XCX winning the goty. The westernized Bloodborne has a much higher chance of winning. Possible candidates are bloodborne, tw3, mgs5, batman and halo, considering how a goty must have other requirements other than a good meta, like having pretty good sales. Also, among the listed games, bb and halo won't probably win because they're exclusives.

Didn't stop The Last of Us...

Depends on what you mean.  If you mean the VGAs, it lost to Grand Theft Auto V.  Also, while they did win the majority, the 200 number includes a ton of dinky little publications. If you limit it to noteworthy publications, it didn't dominate as much; there were a number of GTAV and BioShock Infinite GOTYs.

Still won more than any other game. Besides there were other examples of exclusives that won plenty of GOTYs that others mentioned as well.

True enough.  There's nothing stopping an exclusive from winning.

Since when Bayonetta 2 and Xenoblade X are similare games? Why if bayonetta, a hack and slash that was blamed to be sexist, didnt win, a massive rpg will not win? Where´s the logic there?
because is on the WiiU? That´s what you are really saying?

I want to remind you that the last year the winner was a sequel of one big and impresive rpg... just like, you know, XENOBLADE.

Xenonlade looks cool but its not the best thing in the world. Wait till witcher 3, batman arkham knight, halo 5 and mgs v. Plus xenoblade might underperform critic wise.

I say MGS V. X will be too niche sadly imo
