Forums - Nintendo - How come the 3DS has horrible support and no games coming out for it?

DS had a lot of support, but most of it was garbageware much like the Wii. The number of quality of titles should be more or less the same between the DS and 3DS.

Its really not.  If you think about it Nintendo release 2 quality racing games on DS, Mario Kart and Diddy Kong, only 1 on 3DS, 2 quality M&L games on DS, only 1 on 3DS, 3 quality Castlevania games on DS none on 3DS, 2KH games on DS and 1 on 3DS, 2 original Zelda games on DS only 1 on 3DS, 3 original pokemon games on DS and only 1 so far on 3DS (we'll be lucky to get 2)...the list goes on.

Don't know what you mean with M&L? Mario&Luigi? 3DS has Super Mario 3D Land and NSMB2.

Luigis Mansion: 0x DS,  1x 3DS

Kid Icarus: 0x DS, 1x 3DS

Bravely Default: 0x Ds, 2x 3DS

Youkai Watch: 0x DS, 3x 3DS

Fantasy Life: 0x DS, 1x 3DS

Monster Hunter: 0x DS, 2x 3DS

Super Smash Bros: 0x DS, 1x 3DS

...the list goes on

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024

10 years greatest game event!

You think that doesn't go the other way too?  I already gave way more games in this thread than you just listed.  This is just gonna turn into a list war, which I'm not interested in.

I'm just happy Azure Striker Gunvolt finally made it to Europe and Xeodrifter will soon.
Also, the new Ace Attorney looks dope, and Dual Destinies localization was quite speedy.

It's an aging system and Nintendo can't support two platforms at the same time. Even when you notice the 3DS is getting a good wave of releases it usually means the Wii U isn't and vice-versa.

4th year = aging?  Also they pretty much dropped the ball back in 2013.  2014 was weak aside from a few RPGs.

4th year is more than half way through its life cycle.  I am pretty sure that qualifies as aging, especially if systems have a bell curve statistic to their sales records.

You say they dropped the ball in 2013 and basically by extension 2014 with that comment.  What exactly are you basing this on?  A lot of evidence to the contrary, but you ignore it all.

Hope the NX is going to be Nintendo Steam for Phones

How could you possibly hope something like that? :/ The point of buying DeNa was not for the phone business but to make a new service that unifies all their platforms in addition to mobile and PC. An accessible platform from anywhere, this would be a huge step up from the competition who have very little going for them in that aspect. Though Microsoft has tried to unify Xbox and PC with Games for Windows and that didn't do well, Xbox and Surrface was also a flop. They are trying again with Windows 10. Sony let you buy games from your phone and it would download on your playstation, that's a bust now. So if Nintendo can get this right, then they will have a huge edge over the competition in this aspect.

Personally I hope the NX is the console that Iwata claimed it would. He said it would be for gamers.

No, I can't agree with this. 3DS has an amazing catalogue. This year is weak, but 3DS is approaching its end. I remember 2013 3DS lineup as one of the best of every console, ever. And even in its weakest year (2014) we had Bravely Default, Super Smash Bros, Conception II, Persona Q, Professor Layton... And this year was a good start with MH4, Majora's Mask, STEAM and Xenoblade Chronicles. The 2nd half looks empty, but 3DS is approaching its end, I think. I find it a better handheld than DS, less quantity but more quality, in general.

Seriously, all of THIS. Quality over quantity.

At the same time, you can't expect the 3DS library to be the same as the DS. Mobile gaming culture has changed completely in the last 10 years and Nintendo's upcoming system (NX) paired with its news of making mobile games with DeNA has to affect developer's interest towards the 3DS.

Regardless of all of that, we've gotten 4 huge games in the first 4 months of the year and I'm sure there will be some surprises at E3 as always.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

Well. The 3DS is getting a new Fire Emblem game next year. So Nintendo obviously has a few more surprises in store. Other than that, there's no doubt that the 3DS will have a shorter life span than the DS. The DS lasted so long and got so many great games because it had zero competition. The closest competition it had was the PSP and Sony more or less gave up on the PSP after 2006. After that, the DS had the handheld market to itself. The mobile market (at least as we know it) was non-existent. The 3DS lives in a world with a million different ways to play games on the go. That leaves mostly Nintendo and a handful of Japanese developers to support the system.

So if you're somebody who has a 3DS and buys the newest big game when it comes out, it's understandable why you'd feel disappointed. For those of you who do not own a 3DS, you are doing yourself a disservice as a gamer.

Western developers dont care when its so much easier to fool people out of their money on the phones.

People that keep saying its 4th, we are in 3ds's 5th year.

2011= 1st Year
2012= 2nd Year
2013= 3rdYear
2014= 4th Year
2015= 5th Year (starting Feb/March)

Will continue support in its 6 year as well going by FE:if in West, and a couple japanese announced i think 2016

It's 4th year in the sense that it is already 4+ years old, I would say.  Though, if we were to say what year it's in, it would be more accurate to say 5th. (Works the same way as what Century you're in).
