I think it was much more justfied when they were porting generation 6 games(PS2/OG XBOX/GCN) over to the 7th generation due to the adaption to high definition TV sets and the 6th generation consoles generally looking pretty bad on them due to supporting 480P in the very best case scenario(through component/VGA cables, even then many games simply did not support 480P). So games like ICO, original DMC, Splinter Cell etc were all classics that were brought over for the fans that loved the originals and to obtain new fans(and dollars). The original Devil May Cry on PS3 looks a million times better remastered on A HDTV than the original on SDTV. However now the difference in remasters is not so great. Take GTAV or TLOU:R for example. Yes they run much smoother and are sharper, but the difference is not so great given they supported high definition displays the first time around(maybe not 1080P but certainly 720P). It was much more 'excusable' during the PS3/360 era but publishers have always been in it for the dollars. Remember Mario All Stars on the SNES? It was basically a remake of Super Mario Bros. 1, 2 and 3 with the Japanese version of 2 thrown in.
I'm not opposed to remasters, I actually own quite a few of them because I loved the originals and being remastered makes them even better but I am opposed to the constant drought of 8th generation EXCLUSIVE games that the PS4 and X1 from. I'm not taking about Sony exclusives or Microsoft exclusives but actual games exclusive to 8th generation hardware such as say Killzone Shadow Fall or MK8. Games that are not cross-generation. It is because of these droughts that make the remasters look like desperate attempts to fill in the void instead of making a consoles great game library even better. The Wii U is not much better in this regard given the it suffers from severe droughts of games in general but at least most of its games are exclusive for it. PS4/X1 both are lacking in generation 8 exclusive software and 1.5 years in, it is not excusable.

They are just bankrupt in general, games are very expensive to produce these days.
I don't mind them since no one is forcing me to buy them, but imo Sony are being greedy by making you pay $40 for a single game that was already in HD, they should at least include Ascension, I mean, even an extremely greedy company like Square-Enix includes at least two games in a single pack (KH 2.5 HD, FFX/X-2 HD, etc)

What about FF:Type-0 HD? that is a remaster and just a single game and they even took out features like the multi-player and charged even more then the original Release ($40 ^ to $60)

Well, Type-0 had never been released before in the West and it includes the FFXV demo but I agree, it's overpriced
Remasters are like an ex-girlfriend who you hadn't seen in a while and somehow ends up being hotter after you break up and you kick yourself every time you think naughty thoughts. Then you have to decide whether or not to deny the hook up with her on principle or hook up just because you both have to have one another one last time. :)

. . . That's the first time I've seen a remaster described like that
Im all for remakes, if its a game I enjoyed I would love to play it again with tweaked graphics or improved performance (gief FFVII & VIII remakes!)
But im not all for there pricing of them, if it was something that had to be completely rebuilt due to it being an old game I dont mind paying full price. But games like GoW 3, The Last of Us etc which are just slight improvements on the last gen they are charging way to much.
The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.
