Forums - Gaming - Give your reason as to why remasters are good/bad

I don't see how a remaster is a bad thing. I have bought 3 remasters thus far. Being Tomb Raider DE, TLOU:R, and GTA5:R. I did not get any of those games when they launched and by them being remastered I got to experience them at a higher level than those on the previous gen did. FFX/X2 will be my 1st remaster that I have played but it has been 14 years so what F, why not.

psn- tokila

add me, the more the merrier.

The point of these remasters is that it gives people who came from another console the chance to play some of the games they might have missed.

We aren't actually required to purchase them. They are quick, cheap and don't actually require a massive team to make them. So while Developers work on actual games, new Games or New IPs, they can have small teams of people work on a remaster, like TLOU, and maybe The Uncharted collection before UC4 ?!....Also some Remaster sold really well, look at GTAV and TLOU, it's easy money coming into the pocket of publishers and developers, and more resources for new games.

Harriet Tubman.

I hate them this gen because they are basically last gen games which I already own and the remaster doesn't really add anything to the game.

They should remaster after minimum 10-15 years where considerable improvements can be added to the game to make you want to buy it again.

ATM this gen to me feels empty because I have played most those games last gen. I want new games dammit lol.

I wouldn't wonder if many of the third party remasters/ports to PS4 + XBO were initially planned as ports to the Wii U.

When it became clear that PS3 / 360 ports don't sell good enough on the Wii U the destination platform for these ports was shifted to PS4 / XBO, where such ports are highly profitable (when labeled as "definitive edition" or "remastered").

There have been far too many, and more are on their way.I can´t remember any other generation where so many remasters were released, and they´re all games from the previous gen, the jump isn´t very big...might as well do it with older PS2 era games that really could use the treatment.

That list means nothing. If you just go for quantity, then mobiles and PC should be your platforms of choice.

Lazy remasters are bad because they are money grabs and an excuse to keep backwards compatibility of consoles. Collections are fine, but single games are lazy. I consider MCC a real remaster where there was some effort put in, also it was amazing value, not to mention it spans nearly 14 years across 3 consoles.

Narly 8-10 years should have passed before we get a remaster, where you can at least notice the changes.

Remasters/remakes arent bad per se. The problem is that in this gen we're remaking games that are practically new. The fact that the new consoles don't have backwards compatibility allows studios to remake recent titles and sell them as new again. I thing that they should wait one generation to remake one title. Why upgrade to the next gen when a good portion of the games coming out are avalible cheaper in your current system? Look at PC games, this problem is way less damaging, how many pc remasters do you feel are unnecesary?

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Laziness is releasing a broken product in order to get the upper hand against a competitor which Halo MCC was.

so? Remasters arent something new when the playstation and sega saturn launched they got tons of stuff from the arcades, laser disc games and other CD CGI games as well as PC ports like myst. Games who allready exist back then on more powerfull platforms but werent possible on consoles like the snes. Today remasters are rereleased because they werent possible on a certain resolution and framerate. Where is really the difference?
