Firstly Gamers weren't stigmatised at all during the 6th gen, that is when the mainstream got into gaming that is when games like FIFA became huge, besides how does gaming being 'stigmatised' or whatever have any affect on the industry as a whole? Simple, it wouldn't. The industry would have been fine with either way.

Secondly, games become stale? You must remember the 6th gen differently to everyone else because plenty of people think it had some of if not the best games ever.

You just proved my point really though. FIFA appeals to the 14-35 male demographic.

So what if a game appeals to a certain demographic? It was still mainstream, people weren't hiding in basements playing it like you seem to think, everyone was playing it with their mates and talking about it all the time.

I didn't say people were hiding in their basement, I said that's the PERCEPTION people had of gamers back in the 90s and 00s, which is true (the perception, not the hiding in their basement).

I remember when I first got my PS2 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for Christmas. At the Christmas dinner, when people saw it, all they could say was how you could have sex with prostitutes, then kill them and take your money back. Or how violent it was, if I would grow up to be violent like that, etc. etc.

I got the Wii at launch date, but I noticed something different during that Christmas: my aunt had a Wii. My mom wanted a Wii. My grandma was playing the Wii. Gaming went from "yeah he can virtually kill prostitutes" to a family get together.

The Wii saved gaming.

And are they still playing the WIi now? did they get a Wii U? Did they get any system? So whatever gains were made by the Wii didnt stick or last so in the end it DIDNT expand anything cause those casuals either went back to not playing games or they went to their phones and tablets which they would have done regardless casue most people have a phone anyway.

Wii didnt save anything

Myth that fighting games are primarily competitive.

In SF4, 49% of players completed arcade mode on medium, while 34% played 50 matches on xbox live
http://www.trueachievements.com/Super-Street-Fighter-4/achievements.htm

In Tekken 6, 49% completed arcade mode while 45% played even 10 online matches

If you pick games which have solo mode going beyond bare-bone "fly around world and kick people in ethnically stereotyped settings", online gets all but irrelevant:

90% cleared Saiyan Saga in Dragonball Xenoverse, while only 16% played online battle once
http://steamcommunity.com/stats/323470/achievements

66% cleared story mode in Injustice: Gods Among Us, while 33% won an online match. A single one match.

So all that framedata research and flowcharts are important for like 5% percent of hardcore players. For anyone else devs could instead pay attention to campaign, like MK X does.

3rd console curse, and it's happened every time! Also it repeats every 3 times.

Nintendo: N64 (lose of dominance in the market) Wii U (lose of dominance again)

Sony: PS3 (High price, huge failure for 1/2 the gen, lose of dominance)

Microsoft: Xbox One (Higher price than competition, weaker hardware compared to PS4, forced DRM then backfireing, moderate loss of market share).

So as you can see, its always happened, and it'll happen again!

The myth that Nintendo saved gaming, and we should be grateful to them for it. What a load of shit that is.

Nintendo has saved gaming twice though:

- NES: due to the seal of quality, it helped prevent another gaming crash. Also made gaming more mainstream and its games are the basis of gaming today. Super Mario Bros. was loads more advanced than Pitfall, Zelda was entirely new pretty much, etc. etc.

- Wii: Gaming was becoming stagnant, and gamers were getting stereotyped hard. Wii opened it up to a whole new audience and made gaming truly mainstream. Continues today with smartphones now.

Gaming was alive in arcades and homecomputers at the time, nintendo hasnt saved anything other than console gaming

Pokemon Emerald: Finish the game, clock in exactly 333:33 hours, fly over Mosdeep City 200 times, beat every Frontier Brain, defeat the Champion, defeat Steven. With all that done, start traveling through all of Hoenn, you should find a tree with an eye. Interact with it, and you should fight Vs Jirachi.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

stigmatized? Consoles dont sell 160mil plus by being stigmatized

The PS2 did not expand gaming socially. The PS2 is my favorite console of all time too. There was a huge social stigma against gaming in the 90s and 00s, and the Wii helped calm that down.

Really? If anything, the Wii stigmatized console gaming as the casuals don't go back to console gaming and stick to smartphones. And you have to be really ignorant if you think the PS2 didn't expand gaming.
