Firstly Gamers weren't stigmatised at all during the 6th gen, that is when the mainstream got into gaming that is when games like FIFA became huge, besides how does gaming being 'stigmatised' or whatever have any affect on the industry as a whole? Simple, it wouldn't. The industry would have been fine with either way.

Secondly, games become stale? You must remember the 6th gen differently to everyone else because plenty of people think it had some of if not the best games ever.

You just proved my point really though. FIFA appeals to the 14-35 male demographic.

So what if a game appeals to a certain demographic? It was still mainstream, people weren't hiding in basements playing it like you seem to think, everyone was playing it with their mates and talking about it all the time.

I didn't say people were hiding in their basement, I said that's the PERCEPTION people had of gamers back in the 90s and 00s, which is true (the perception, not the hiding in their basement).

I remember when I first got my PS2 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for Christmas. At the Christmas dinner, when people saw it, all they could say was how you could have sex with prostitutes, then kill them and take your money back. Or how violent it was, if I would grow up to be violent like that, etc. etc.

I got the Wii at launch date, but I noticed something different during that Christmas: my aunt had a Wii. My mom wanted a Wii. My grandma was playing the Wii. Gaming went from "yeah he can virtually kill prostitutes" to a family get together.

The Wii saved gaming.
