...And all VGChartz cares about is Atlus.

Kids today are the worst.

It's concerning but not all doom and gloom yet. They have a lot of profitable properties so hopefully they continue with them or sell them on to someone who will.

Off the top of my head:
Persona,
Yakuzo,
Alien,
Sonic,
Football manager,
Bayonetta,
Shenmue,
Valkyria Chronicles,
Phantasy Star,
Virtua Tennis,
Mortal Combat,
Vanquish,

and i'm sure a good few more. Many of those games can still make a lot of money on consoles and handhelds so if they are done with any i hope they sell them on.

"Profitable", haha. More than half of your list is the reason why Sega is retreating. Alien Isolation flopped, Sonic seems to finally die for good, Bayonetta only lived on because of Nintendo, Shenmue never got a third installment because it would cost too much to develop, Valkyria Chronicles got mismanaged, Phantasy Star struggles, Virtua Tennis hasn't been a thing in years, Vanquish was a commercial failure. Mortal Kombat has nothing to do with Sega.

Most of them if done right could be profitable.

Wish Phantasy Star would come out on Wii U. I'd rather play that game on console considering all my hours logged on GC version. I'll probably buy Valkyria Chronicles on Steam when it goes down to 5-8 or so on sale.  They seem to be at least pumping out some 3D Classics games on 3DS eshop.  Just keep putting up your old games on all the eshops.

Wrong, Atlus is the best.

A company with no direction desperatly trying to avoid the end. They would be better off selling their games division. They could still get some good money for sonic team, yakuza team and phantasy star team along with respective IP's.

I mean, what was even the point of buying Atlus and those THQ studios? Its a company with no sense that doesnt know what its doing. I can only hope someone buys their gaming division. Even if its EA and microsoft. This is horrible to watch as a fan of old SEGA. Please Sammy, just sell what remains of SEGA. You've done enough damage.

What about my Yakuza games?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

They'll be freely available on your browser or mobile device, with each mission, new area, or line of dialogue purchasable for a reasonable price.

I doubt Sega is done with consoles as a whole. I predict they will continue to do fairly big budget games for the Japanese market. For the west, perhaps they'll continue to do low budget digital releases and ports.

Frankly, that's all long time Sega fans want from them. I would take another Sonic 4 over another big budget piece of crap like Sonic Boom.

Sonic Boom -> Big Budget

I'm comparing Sonic Boom to Sonic 4 (a cheap digital download game), not Call of Duty. Hence, Sonic Boom had a big budget compared to most digital download games.

Sonic 4 was likely cheaper to make, sold at a lower price, more enjoyable, and less risky. That's the kind of stuff I want from Sega.

The problem with Sonic 4 was exactly that it was too small. Both episodes came out feeling like unfinished games.

Wait, they are called "Sega Games" now? Doesn't Sega stand for something like "Service Games" already?

Yes, and now they are Service Games Games. That is a lot of "Games" for a company that doesn't make any.

I still don't think they're exiting console development and that everyone is misreading everything.

Like saying RPG Games or Laser Light

They should license out their IPs to other publishers, let them develop Sega's IPs, pay some royalties back to Sega and they'll just be sitting back and watching at least some income coming back to them from their titles.
It's a shame for Sega's games to leave the portion of the market they started out on, by which I mean at least having consoles being provided for.

Developers really need to think about how they use their staff more wisely, use the same approach as Ninja Theory, like how they're being cleaver developing Hellblade, using a small 13 person team of multi-talented staff, don't create game assets that can only be used for one small section of the game, but just tweak minor things, reuse set building blocks in your games and go smaller budget, expect reasonable profits and that way they can become profitable again and give the gamers a good stream of new games, with a lot of variety.

If indie studios can start at the grass roots level and make money, creating a snowball effect in sales thinking about making games within their limits, then big companies like this can definitely do the same, only on a vastly bigger scale.

Consoles seem to be on the up again, to ignore at least the biggest sellers is a bit stupid, especially with digital distribution getting bigger focus this gen, it's reduced a lot of the costs of simply putting games out.
Shame Sega went this way, maybe the PC and Mobile markets can make them some money, but while it's a growth market, it's also a highly competitive one.

I hope doing this gets Sega into a more comfortable place financially.
