That is definitely a contributing factor to the lower handheld segment overall.  Look at 3DS for proof.  It has a ridiculous market share but is still tracking FAR behind DS at this point with no reprieve in sight.  Same story for Vita and its predecessor.

It had shipped 50.41m at the end of the year, but according to VGC it had sold 50.17m at that time, so only 240k on shelves. For a console that sells as much as the 3DS, that's ridiculous.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

It was actually at 50.4m and then it was adjusted down to 50.17m if I remember correctly.

Doesn't mean a gaming handheld console cannot succeed however. Also does not mean smartphones are the sole reason for the Vita's failures. The 3DS may be tracking far behind the DS but it is still constantly the second most selling console weekly(ahead of the Wii U, PS3, X1, Vita, etc).

Yeah, Its Mostly Europe thats overtracked and/or rest of the World. I think we have it spot on in France (or was it Germany?)

Nintendo didn't ship as much last quarter, so if 50.41mil was shipped, i think 700k-1.2mil is safe bet where it is SOLD. So Its overtracked by about 500k-1mil imo

Very good week for PS4, again roughly 2:1 with XBOne. And again roughly 30k more than XBOne and WiiU combined.

For next week I'm expecting PS4 at 200k-220k and almost 3:1 with XBOne.
