Forums - Gaming - Why don't you play fighting games?

i still play fighting games. but doesn't want to know all the combos that much. just want to have fun with any game. i have smash, tekken, sf, and doa at the moment.

Tekken Tag 2 is the best game in the franchise.  There should be a new Soul Calibur game.  SCV was pretty terrible.  My friend has Star Gladiator on dreamcast, and we both have powerstone 2, so I'll get to both games, in 60 FPS and powerstone will be done only in 4p mode.  So, even if capcom doesn't do it, I'll be bringing it back myself... kinda.

As for everyone else, I'm seeing a lot of complaints about having to remember "all" the combos.  That isn't possible.  The combo system in fighting games is meant to be creative, for players can build their own combos.  Even if not, relying on fundamentals if you don't know any combos is an option.  Trying to spend an entire match trying to do that one combo you just learned will make you brain dead.



Generally I dont like things that I cant get the gist of within the first hour or so.
By the time I learn to use a character properly hours have passed. By the time I master a character days have passed. Then move on to the next character I want to use.... and the cycle repeats.

I just found them not economical in relation to time. I got lots of games to play and fighting games hamper that progress.

You seem confused. Tekken 5 is the best. Tag 2 had an issue, the juggling broke it. I stopped playing it when I was playing online once and while a very even match between me and this person, I noticed I was near a wall so when they knocked me down, I stayed down to watch their move, roll away or try and counter their constant "get opponent in the air and win" tactics. There I was laying on the ground when suddenly they (as Asuka) did a move that bounced me in the air and they did a massive tag combo from that. They kicked me on the ground, I bounced up, not backwards like it used to, even in 6.

Tekken went from "working out your opponents fighting style/prefered moves, blocking, when to counter or put pressure on correctly" to "get opponent in the air, do combo they can't block and win".

SCV went under the radar a bit, not sure why. 4 had Star Wars promotion help. Not a fan of that series though.

I had no issues with combos, if you could pull off a 120 hit in MvsC3, it was impressive to behold. But it is very scripted combos, a free flowing combo setup like MK9 or Tekken is far more satisfying as you have to learn the combo, not jut press a few buttons then let it play out.

Because I don't feel the need to because they don't bring anything new I couldn't already do in Street Fighter II on SNES or SoulCalibur on Dreamcast.

No, the combos aren't scripted in MvC3.  There are certain attacks in the game that do 30, or 40 hits max, those are scripted, but not the entire 120 hit combo.  SCV just sucked.  That's why it went under.

From how you're talking, you're going to absolutely hate Tekken 7.

And, Tekken is still like how you described at first.  Only people who don't know how to play allow themselves to get hit by combo after combo.  People who know how to play are going to have more proper defense, and look for counter attacks, which deal more than usual damage.  Paul's Pheonix smasher  on rage + counter hit does about 1/3 damage, from a single attack, for example.  If you're hit by that 3 times, you lose.  But, if you were silly enough to get hit by it 3 times, you deserved to lose anyway.

However, I've bought Tekken 5 so many times.  Once on PSP, twice on PS2, and again on PS3.  I have problems getting into it, because some characters are missing attacks.  But, Tekken 5 has combos that deal 60%+ health too.



I just kinda got bored with them, I guess. I played the hell out of them back in the day, especially Mortal Kombat, Soul Blade, and Tekken. I especially remember playing pretty much every fighting game that would come out on N64, PS1, and PS2. Towards the end of the PS2 era, i just couldn't get into them anymore. I still try one from time to time, but only end up playing for maybe an hour tops.



I love fighting games: King of Fighters, Mortal Kombat, Injustice, Street Fighter X Tekken, Marvel vs Capcom are my personal favorites. I like the old NeoGeo classics, like Garou, Samurai Shodown and Fatal Fury.

I didn't had a lot of experience with Street Fighter, but that's changing now. I'm getting into Guilty Gear now and enjoying it.

I should have been more precise. Bound was the issue. 'Bound' broke Tag 2. Juggling is a standard Tekken thing but it used to be skill that allowed you to do it but bound made it a game mechanic. In 6 it wasn't much of an issue because Tag didn't exist but it felt like they made it easier for some characters than other, Lars being designed for it, while older generation characters didn't translate as well. Lars was bloody confusing to block against, you see, he'd start telegraphic an attack, swing his arms and that's a low attack? What?

I never minded Paul with Rage, but rage is only when your health is low, it's already a risk to be in that situation. If you are, most likely that you'll lose the match anyway. Anyway, according to gameplay, you lose rage if you perform a rage art, so not spamming as you mention above.

I may well hate Tekken 7 (I expect I won't as at first I wasn't fussed on 6 but love it now), Tekken Revolution was okay with no bound at all it played more like 5 but the flash moves also broke that. The fade-in-out ones could be spammed to a ridiculous level.
