Forums - Gaming - Why don't you play fighting games?

I have to be really invested in a fighting game to put the time & effort into learning it. IE, I love the cast of Tekken & Persona, so I've actually spent time with those two fighters. Used to like Soul Calibur through #2. Mostly it feels like a chore memorizing special moves & combos, and nothing makes the silly fruitless nature of video gaming more painfully apparent than spending hours with a virtual training dummy in a sad attempt to be okay at a game others are godly at.

if it is not smash, not fun. learning long combo's not worth my time.

:)

I love fighting games, so I have not much to add other than how infuriatingly frustrating some of the excuses here are to read.

My brother is a big fan of them so I'll play with him when he asks, but that's about it.

I play Killer Instinct. My rank is kind of high. I was a Dead or Alive Ultimate player(Xbox) My friend got me back into fighting games with Injustice. I was ranked top 90 before my shitty controller forced me to stop playing. I love some fighters with KI being the most fun I've had from them.

I do play fighting games, my opinion may not be needed in that regard.

But I'd like to point out that I find some of the reasons for not playing videogames (the ones posted prior to my post) a little frustrating, because once you put a bit of time into a fighting game, you'd discover many things and how fun it is to try different styles/characters. People should give them a chance!

I'm not a pro with fighting games, though I love them and absolutely enjoy multiplayer matches in Street Fighter, The King Of Fighters, Mortal Kombat, WWE, DefJam, Naruto, Virtua Fighter, and of course Smash!

A) My friends don't play them
B) I don't have the patience to memorize a million different complex combos, so I just end up button mashing
C) No story or anything to it besides picking 2 characters and a background to play on
D) I just prefer other genres

I made this post assuming you mean games such as Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, etc.

I do, but only Tekken because I just don't get the controls on SF/ Mortal Combat/Injustice/Marvel vs Capcom etc.

I don't feel satisfied playing them. Trying to learn all the combos to beat people feels like a lot of work, I'm terrible at timing of the combos. The people that live them are way above my level and could beat me with almost any character in any fighting game while those who don't just button mash and do pretty much just as well as me.

It takes too much time and practice to get good at them. Atleast for me. Plus I don't find spending all that time on them very rewarding. So if I do play them, it's casually.
