Forums - Sales - Game Sales That Surprise You

Keep in mind that the database for old games are very lackluster. For example iirc, one of the Sly Cooper games isn't even tracked. Basically take these numbers with a grain of salt.

And I was actually surprised by the same thing the OP was surprised about. Always thought R&C 2 or 3 would have been the bestselling ones in the series.

Personally, I loved RE5 but I was shocked to find that it was the best selling Resident Evil game. It garnered a lot of hate.

Resi 4 for the PS2. It barely sold any better on the PS2 than on the GC, but I really don't know why!

Resident Evil 4 was "exclusive" to the GC, kinda in the same way ROTR is for the XB1. When it came out on the Cube most throught it was never being ported, and when it was ported it well down the road and is a marginally inferior version (GC was more powerful).

Resident Evil 4 came out in Jan 05 for the Cube and Nov/Dec 05 for the PS2.

I'm aware of that, but I still expected the PS2 version to at least sell a million more!

Pretty much all ps4 games sold more than I thought they would.

Other than that uncharted 1 debuted with around 80k first week and ended up selling over 5 million lifetime.

Woah is that a true fact about Uncharted Drakes Fortune?! I had that game on my fat PS3 and none of my roommates had even heard of it. To be honest, when I got it, I really had no clue what it was lol Within a week my roommates were all gathered around the tv and we played nightly till we beat it. That game actually got one of my friends to get a PS3 and he became Uncharted obesssed. I think that game just had amazing word of mouth once people got a taste of it.

As for the PS4 sales... I think it's the dominant platform (sales wise) and thus more consoles on in homes, more games purchased (naturally). Also it doesn't hurt that it tends ot have the better multi-plats. So the PS4 sales are shockingly high, but at the same time, not entirely. You know?

It is technically true, but not really true.

It was partially released on a Friday before its actual release date, hence the low first week sales. Its legs are still impressive, but not quite as impressive as if that 80k had really been its first week's sales

At the time, I was a Gamecube fan (and PS2 owner) and I was hoping the 'Cube version would remain on top.  I was pretty sad when PS2 RE4 overtook the Gamecube version despite a year of exclusivity.  Didn't epect it to happen.

The Evil WIthin having over 3m sales.  I'm doubting these numbers I mean the game sold so much and the developers don't say anything?  I don't even remember it being hyped that much and its review scores are nothing to write home about.

NPD said it was the highest selling survival horror game of all time, not counting sequels

There is no way it outsold the original RE already.

Theres nothing marginal at all about it. The GC version was vastly superior on graphics and performance. They had to create extra content exclusive to the PS2 version to make it more appealing. I believe it was an Ada episode. Didnt change the fact the game was just better on the GC though.

If NPD said it did, it did in USA.

It says it was the "the highest-selling first month of sales for new IP in the Survival Horror genre."

He misquoted it.

Here's one, best selling game on a single console that isn't Nintendo? Kinect Adventures. WTF!!
