Forums - Sales - Game Sales That Surprise You

Pretty much all ps4 games sold more than I thought they would.

Other than that uncharted 1 debuted with around 80k first week and ended up selling over 5 million lifetime.

Woah is that a true fact about Uncharted Drakes Fortune?! I had that game on my fat PS3 and none of my roommates had even heard of it. To be honest, when I got it, I really had no clue what it was lol Within a week my roommates were all gathered around the tv and we played nightly till we beat it. That game actually got one of my friends to get a PS3 and he became Uncharted obesssed. I think that game just had amazing word of mouth once people got a taste of it.

As for the PS4 sales... I think it's the dominant platform (sales wise) and thus more consoles on in homes, more games purchased (naturally). Also it doesn't hurt that it tends ot have the better multi-plats. So the PS4 sales are shockingly high, but at the same time, not entirely. You know?

LBP 3 on PS4.. game was like sub 40K and then next day well over a million.

Tomodaichi Life surprises me too.

Yeah people write off games way too fast somethimes. Both Killzone and Tearaway on Vita took a bunch of shit for bombing when they released.
Tearaway sold just 59k worldwide (excluding Japan and maybe Asia) although it was just 2 days of sales. Its now at 560k and sold 13k this past January.
Killzone sold 88k (2 weeks EU/JP and 1 US) and has now gone on to sell 680k with 17k in January.

Lastly nobody was calling this a flop but nobody expected this

Pos Game Platform Year Genre Publisher North America Europe Japan Rest of World Global
1 Persona 4: The Golden PSV 2012 Role-Playing Atlus 0.29 0.16 0.32 0.10 0.86
2 Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 PS2 2008 Role-Playing Atlus 0.34 0.04 0.36 0.08 0.82

The Last Of Us sales have really surprising. I know it was hyped a lot by fans, but I didn't know there were so many fans. It has sold over 10 million by now. I didn't expect it to even outsell God Of War: Ascension, which sold way below my expectations.

Resi 4 for the PS2. It barely sold any better on the PS2 than on the GC, but I really don't know why!

I didn't know the best selling Sonic game was the Mario and Sonic Olympic game.
I didn't know that only one Digimon game has sold more than a million, Digimon World for the PS1.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Twighlight Princess is the best selling console Zelda game (Wii+GC combined) in fact TP for the Wii alone was within a few 100k of OoT.

No Zelda since OoT (console or handheld) time has sold over a million in Japan, but ever console Zelda before that did. In fact no handheld Zelda has ever sold over a million in Japan (despite how big Nintendo's handhelds have been there). Although Phantom Hourglass got close at .95 million.

Resident Evil 4 was "exclusive" to the GC, kinda in the same way ROTR is for the XB1. When it came out on the Cube most throught it was never being ported, and when it was ported it well down the road and is a marginally inferior version (GC was more powerful).

Resident Evil 4 came out in Jan 05 for the Cube and Nov/Dec 05 for the PS2.

Yeah the game and most ps3 games at the time had development problems.  They got it out in stores for the last week of the year.  I remember seeing an ad in a playstation magazine and was like, fuck it I'll get it. Must have completed it 15 times in the years since.

My favourite game ( Toy Story 2 ) actually sold over 1 million units .

The Evil WIthin having over 3m sales.  I'm doubting these numbers I mean the game sold so much and the developers don't say anything?  I don't even remember it being hyped that much and its review scores are nothing to write home about.

NPD said it was the highest selling survival horror game of all time, not counting sequels
