Its the truth, there is no must have games on the PS4 or Xbone yet. Its kinda sad actually.

Looking back at the PS3/360, exactly what games were "must have" a year into their lifespan?

Gears of War and Oblivion

Captain toad levels ok because no game had ever done anything like that before.

Ratchet and Clank all 4 one did that already. This only shows me you really dont know what you are talking about.

Any FP game ever made plays like PRime because Prime is a FP game.

I'm still waiting for you to show me where Ninty is doing something that hasnt been done before by anyone cause that would be innovative

I think it's a mix of naivity and a lack of exposure to the vast wealth of video games that are out there across all of the platforms. But it's very common that the games attributed with introducing revolutionary concepts, have actually borrowed them from lesser known games. Innovation and Popularisation are very different.

However, I will admit for Metroid Prime, it was the first real time action game I played where the story/narration was done through examining your environment. Damn I love that game!

I'll give you Oblivion, to  be honest I completely forgot it existed because everyone always talks about Skyrim lol

As for Gears of War, I wouldn't say it was a must have. Good game but I felt like Gears of War 2 was the game that really made that franchise.

Sales doesn't mean the games are good.

then who says what games are good? You? please. If you dont like them fine but they are your opinion and in no way fact, you are in the minority THAT is a fact.

People do not always decide to purchase something because it is 'good'.  Marketing and hype are pretty key to sales.  Most people purchase games before they have had a chance to play them after all.

Sony first party generally picks up after the first two years. They introduce new IP's and then hold on to the ones that stick. As for Killzone:Shadowfall people don't know what they want. When KZ2 came out people complained that the weapon weight was too heavy and slow for multiplayer, so as COD got bigger Guerilla adapted for the twitch shooter market and people complained that it wasn't unique like KZ2's weapons.

Thankfully Guerilla is making a new IP. That crap was ridiculous.

People were complaining that Halo 5 plays more like COD. They can suck it too. I love how both KZ and Halo play. KZ just needed a better campaign to tell you the truth.

Nah, Gears 1 was the bomb, and it launched a franchise that helped define a generation. It was a definite must have

Yet you guys can't name me one similar game to SM3DL/SM3DW, MM, Splatoon, Fire Emblem: Awakening (perma death feature, your crew can fall in love with each other and have babies which you can recruit to your army thanks to a time travel element), XBX (and watch the Japanese direct bevfore you comment on this).

In fact, read this interview:

Aonuma

When I finished creating Majora's Mask for the Nintendo 64, I assumed that other companies would be releasing games similar to this one. But in reality, no one did.

Iwata

I certainly haven't seen anything like this anywhere else.

Aonuma

Even 15 years after the Nintendo 64 version of this game released, no one created a game like this. Because of this, the unique taste and feel of this game seems to exist for a long time...

Iwata

So, a game that's timeless?

Aonuma

I believe so. So even if people of this generation play this game, I think they can find something that will call out to their hearts, and have a fresh experience that they can gain something from. So I hope many people will play this game, to have an experience that can only be gained by playing Majora's Mask 3D.

Ridge Racer 6 was a stunning launch title IMO. That said, my favourite early 360 game was Burnout Revenge, yes it was on PS2 and Xbox, but the Xbox 360 version was just on another level.

Perma death has been around awhile, Steel Batallion on the original Xbox not only had perma death, it deleted your save file if you died.

Lmao @ bolded.

And Ratchet & Clank is not a platformer. People automatically call any game with cartoony graphics a platformer these days.

Having less dungeons isn't innovative, but having the main focus of the game being time based sidequests IS. Tell me one single game where you relive the same 3 days over and over again (or any other set period of time.). Or a game based around sidequests with exact time schedules. The time travel between OoT and MM is quite a different experience. Anyone who played those games will tell you that.

Ratchet and Clank is a platformer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratchet_%26_Clank read up on it.

No it isnt, they both use the Ocarina of time to travel. For arguments sake lets say you are right (you arent). The original point is what had Nintendo done THIS gen to innovate, using a port of a game released on N64 negates your point anyway.

You didnt really discount anything else i said, so im gonna assume you concede defeat on those
