Forums - Gaming - This generation has sucked so far

All of you seriously need to stop basing this off of reviewers. There are many good games this gen, they just review badly. The Order is getting positive user reviews from everybody, but you guys choose to put faith in what "official" reviewers say. The same reviewers who give call of duty 9's and 8's every year, the reviewers who made dying light get a 73 on metacritic compared to evolve which has an above 80 on metacritic. Absolutely ridiculous. Form your own opinions people, buy or rent some of these "bad" games and form your own opinion.

More negativity lol. I wonder why some of you people even play games.

I don't know where you guys put your expectations. Take, Destiny for example, I recently got it and started playing it with a friend. It's decently fun and not an experience you coulda had last gen. Yet, it is the most bashed game.

So yeah, game's quality has not decreased. Maybe gamers are more whinny nowadays?

Ahhhh... It has been okay. I hardly feel in any sort of panic mode. This is the earliest I ever  bought a console for a new generation going back to my first console owned in the OG Nintendo .Every other one, I waited longer to join. My expectation was always that it takes time to build a great library. My backlog is rather large on this gen already because most games I want are open world games that are long. It helps to also be playing games I missed from the last gen for really cheap too. I must be a gaming whore.

I think they are taking away things from the industry:

- Backward compatibility - why have BC when we can just remaster the games? Some remasters make sense. An Uncharted trilogy remaster would be cool. Halo: MCC was a great idea (but poorly executed). But The Last of Us should've been a PS4 game in the beginning. If it wasn't for all these remasters then we might have had at least exceptional BC. Instead we got none.

- Sequels - Instead of DMC remaster or Dark Souls 2 remaster we should be getting sequels. Imagine having DMC5 by now instead.

Proper BC although great is not the norm in the industry and really not something to value a console on. The PS3 will not be remember for cutting PS2 BC after a year, just like PS2 won't be remembered for being completely BC with PS1- BC is nothing more then a bonus.

In regard to sequels name one time this gen that a remaster has visibly delayed a new game? Dark Souls 3 is obviously going to happen but it was never going to be a 2015 title, same for DMC. I really don't think theres is a single instance right now where you can say we would have had X game, if it wasn't for a remaster. Its really not a conversation worth having unless there is a distinct lack of new games being released, that obviously hasn't been the case for the last 6 months and won't be the case moving forward (unless everything gets delayed to fall 2015/ Q1 2016)

BC should be the norm, but it's not the norm because they can resell you old games at nearly new prices.

And I can say that because there IS a dearth of sequels. There are just too many remasters this gen.

What is so bad about negativity?

Are you saying I should look at the positives of no backward compatibility or the releases of broken and unfinished games? Or be happy that games are being released without major features (The Order, Titanfall, Destiny)?

That's why judging game sollely by meta critic is the most absurd thing, as long as people enjoy it and the game proven to sells a lot, it's doesn't matter for gamer or for the publisher. Because opinion is just opinion, the real test is how far the game can keep on stay on people mind, if nobody like it, nobody will buy the game. simple actualy.

Saints Row 4.  It adds an expansion that uses the same graphics that Saints Row 3 and 4 had, pushing out this shoddy remaster and the small expansion.  If you want for visibility, Saints Row 4 released in August 2013.  Saints Row 3 released in November 2011.  That's only a year and 10 months?  So where is Saints Row 5, or atleast the Saints Row 5 announcement?  I mean if it doesn't release in three months then it's pretty clear there's a longer time between releases than SR3 and 4, right?

Btw.  Just because a delay isn't visible, doesn''t mean that other games didn't get pushed back because of an remaster.  You have no idea if a game is being developed until it's announced, and if it's delayed from pre alpha production, of course they're not going to announce it, they don't even have much of a game.  I mean whenever most games are announced in the industry, they atleast have quite a bit of content put into them.  The games aren't complete but they've got playable sections.  When Skyrim first announced, it was days later that we saw videos showing off gameplay.  Same with Saints Row 3 and 4, etc.  Just about every game.  When Battlefield Hardline was leaked months before E3, it was under  the code name Omaha with a video showing off the games content.  Rarely is a game announced with just a name and a logo, and a lot of the time, even if it is just a name and logo, it's not too long before we see some actual content.

Except it's also on last gen consoles and it's an identical experience when it comes to gameplay.

Even then it's not like it's a unique experience.  It's just a more balanced version of Borderlands.  It could also be compared to White Knight Chronicles as Destiny being nothing more than White Knight Chronicles online as an FPS.

We probably won't see an original 3D Zelda on the 3DS after the remastered MM and OoT, but even then we had A Link Between Worlds and MM Slightly changed a few minor things for the better in an otherwise unacceptable game that required an expansion pack.

Remasters require a lot of the companies resources but Naughty Dog released TLOUR last year and planning to release Uncharted this year, still keeping up with their roughly two year development time.
