Forums - Gaming - This generation has sucked so far

It's been the best generation (of the 2 I had lol) for me!
Wii U has amazing games, 2 amazing Bayonetta games, the best Smash and best MK, my new favourite Warriors game, my first installment in the AC series which just happens to be the best (Black Flag.) And wtf you talking about, Zelda U already looks oooooommmmmmmggggggoty worthy.

Let's not even talk about how outstanding and special the 3DS is to me, because that will take too long.
Looking forward to own an X1 later this year. - will only get the best it has to offer.

In terms of a generation I know I will be disappointed by this generation, because to be honest, it will always feel like generation 7.5 not 8. I enjoy my Wii U, 3DS, PS4, but besides the 3DS, nothing ground breaking when compared to the past.

All gens start slowly and then ramp up. 7th gen was the same way, if I remember correctly.

You're right.  I sure do remember every PS3 game being a port of a PS2 title that released a year ago or a multiconsole title.  Oh wait, no I don't.  At the launch of the 360 it was like that for sports games or a few titles like Gun, Call of Duty Big Red One, etc, but barely any.  Just about every game this gen is a port or multiconsole title that's released alongside with last gen.

Just about every single game on the PS3 was exclusive to next gen consoles.  Aside from Ninja Gaiden Sigma, anything that wasn't exclusive was clearly different in quality.  Go play X Men Origins Wolverine on the PS3 then go play the PS2 or Wii version.  Not even close to the same game.

- Nintendo has been a huge disappointment. We finally get an HD Nintendo console and what do they do? Give us a 3DS sequel (3D World), and give us another weird looking Zelda game instead of a cool ass looking Zelda game like the E3 2011 demo.

What's wrong with a 3DS sequel? If the game is good that is all that should matter.

And how is the new art style weird?

Yeah, this generation didn't start out too well! I don't really agree with what you said regarding Nintendo though.

Theres been a ton of good releases for the first 15months, more so then probably any consoles before. Lets not ignore that. Problem is that there are also more disappointments (broken at launch/over hyped games), a lack of stand out gems and lack of innovation/games pushing the boundary.

Complaining about remasters is pointless. For every remaster there is another handful of new games, they're not taking anything away from the industry.

I think they are taking away things from the industry:

- Backward compatibility - why have BC when we can just remaster the games? Some remasters make sense. An Uncharted trilogy remaster would be cool. Halo: MCC was a great idea (but poorly executed). But The Last of Us should've been a PS4 game in the beginning. If it wasn't for all these remasters then we might have had at least exceptional BC. Instead we got none.

- Sequels - Instead of DMC remaster or Dark Souls 2 remaster we should be getting sequels. Imagine having DMC5 by now instead.

Proper BC although great is not the norm in the industry and really not something to value a console on. The PS3 will not be remember for cutting PS2 BC after a year, just like PS2 won't be remembered for being completely BC with PS1- BC is nothing more then a bonus.

In regard to sequels name one time this gen that a remaster has visibly delayed a new game? Dark Souls 3 is obviously going to happen but it was never going to be a 2015 title, same for DMC. I really don't think theres is a single instance right now where you can say we would have had X game, if it wasn't for a remaster. Its really not a conversation worth having unless there is a distinct lack of new games being released, that obviously hasn't been the case for the last 6 months and won't be the case moving forward (unless everything gets delayed to fall 2015/ Q1 2016)

I've loved it. Smash, Mario Kart, TLoUR, DKCTF, 3d World, Infamous SS, First Light, Resogun, other plus games that I've really enjoyed, Wind Waker HD, and the PS4 versions of Telltale games have all been very enjoyable. Why wouldn't I want to play the cross platform games on their best possible console version and with a better controller and UI? It does add something sorry if you disagree. I'm also probably gonna really enjoy the Order just like I enjoyed Beyond 2 Souls despite similar criticism. Let's be honest it could have been the greatest game of all time and it would have gotten crappy reviews with how dead set reviewers were against it pre-launch. Also if it were an existing franchise like Gears then instead of "generic 3rd person shooter" they'd be saying "more of what we love."

I'm pretty sure there is a great "your mom" joke in here but I'm too afraid of the mods.

OT: The games I played this gen pretty much delivered what I expected from them and there are a bunch of great games coming this year. So while the last year was a bit low on content, this year will make up for it.
