Quite an aggressive OP. Different people have different opinions; reviewers are only their to provide theirs and, with enough reviews, you can form a consensus. That isn't airtight though. I've found myself enjoying some games which reviewed fairly poorly much more than games which were well reviewed. Everyone has different opinions, and I don't think you can reasonably blame reviewers for your tastes not lining up perfectly with theirs.

I understand you can't eliminate subjectivity and bias, but this is not what reviewers are for. It's for objective analysis of a product so that you may inform your audience of its qualities.

I loved GTA 4 so ill have to disagree with that but you're right about the sports games.

Eh, just because something is a rehash, doesn't mean it should be scored like something that's broken. If it works, and satisfies the need of the intended base, then I get why it would receieve high scores. One could claim that 2D Mario scores too high for, basically, being the same game over-and-over again. Would most people agree that it should be scored lower because of it? Probably not.

2D Mario games are scored too high. Just compare DKC: TF with NSMBU. Most people who played both think DKC is a lot better.

Without Mario in its name it would barely make the 70% I bet.

Yeah, just about every game got a 90% that gen, I really hope it doesn't happen again.

Well the 7th gen had tons of great games.

And it had a several tons of overrated ones on top of that. I've never experienced being disappointed so many times over the course of one generation; it seems as if reviewers started considering production value over everything else in their overall scores and I find that to be really sad.

That's probably because a reviewer/critic's job is to extra critical than the average gamer. A critic is far less unforgiving than a gamer like you or me...a good one anyways.

If you enjoy the game, don't even worry about reviews. If you want everybody to enjoy the same thing you do and you somehow feel frustrated when they don't, that sounds like a "you" problem.

Yeah, as if reviewers were any better last gen!

So where are the links to The Order 1886 reviews? Is the OP still updating?

Classic Rol, always having fun

Some reviewers are poor, and come up with ridiculous reasons for deducting a game's score. They are easy to spot. Any reviewer who, for example, critcises a track racer for not being open world or any first or third person shooter for not having multiplayer, is a twat that should be ignored

too much water was another genius one

I generally don't trust reviews. Specifically, the arbitrary scores that websites assign to games. Actually reading the review instead of just skipping down to the score (You'd be surprised how many people do that!) gives you a much better idea of whether the game is good or not.

It saddens me how many good games get ignored just because it has a lower numeric score than another game. I feel Metacritic is largely to blame, and is why I despise that website.

I've stopped reading and watching reviews from most gaming sources a long time ago. I noticed that too many of them sounded like a commercial to me. When reviewers just flat out ignore the faults of game or try to downplay the game's faults, it destroys my perception that they are unbiased and are just trying to sell the game to me.
