PSP sold over 80M units, this is incredible good for a handheld that was the first handheld made by Sony. Handhelds are dying out in America and Europe because of the smartphones which are getting more and more important in our society. I don't even think that the 3DS can outsell the PSP and the 3DS got some of the greatest Nintendo games ever (The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of TIme; The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask; Xenoblade Chronicles). 3DS sales will be around 75M lifetime imo. PSP was a selling-beast and the best handheld ever! There is no chance that another handheld can beat the PSP, the handheld market is shrinking year by year and 3DS had a great software support and didn't manage that!

Well, the fact that the 3DS will get so close to (and if it is on the market longer than people think, could beat) 80m is just a testament to how amazingly well Nintendo handhelds always sell. Considering smart phones have essentially taken over, I'm just impressed how strong of a grip Nintendo still has on the handheld market.

Some people are clearly underestimating the handheld market. You think there will never be another handheld to sell more than 80M? Not even that alone, you also say that there is "no chance" of that happening. 3DS will already be really close to that, so are you really sure?
I'd definitely take that bet. The 3DS or the next gen handheld(s) will prove you wrong already.

Hmm, depending on how much longer the 3DS remains on the market before being replaced by the next handheld. If it continues to get good software, along with the release of the New 3DS, it could potentially pass the PSP. It's only 20 mil away, so anything can happen. The DS sold incredibly well last gen, so the 3DS could reach at least 80 mil I think.

Even if the 3DS does not make it, Nintendo's next handheld might. But by then, it would be after 2020. I don't make bets that go that far into the future.
