Yay! DVR just finished recording. I would have watched it live but I was too busy.

Not only do I get a peek at Nintendo's current marketing magic, I get 2 new episodes out of 2 of my fave TV franchises.

Nintendo finally realized their core market is 20+ and gives no f**ks? Okay, that is a good step forward toward reclaiming the 12~18 year old market from Sony as well I guess...

There's no manipulation here. Nintendo had executives of some of the biggest third parties on stage, and they (not just Nintendo) said that their games are planned to come to Wii U. For the purpose of my argument it doesn't matter whether or not that ended up being the case, because the conversations on VGC at the time were made on the assumption that the games would be coming.

Cool. And a number of their games came to the console. Still, I remember clearly the unveiling of the console and the feeling I got when I learned about the specs. I felt that Reggie thought I was a complete idiot when he kept repeating that they are the most powerful on the market, that now they are the top dog and all core games will come their way because of this beefed out hardware. Who was he trying to fool? It was obvious at that point in time that it wouldn't hold a candle to the coming PS4/XO (you know, the actual competitors of the Wii U) and that multiplats would suck and never sell on such an inferior console. He was presenting the Wii U as a competitor to PS360 in terms of power and was proud that they had them beaten. Awesome Nintendo. Great job.

Nintendo was all talk, but never delivered what they promised and that's why they got what they got. They deserve everything they get this gen.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Nintendo needs to market themselves as a more contemporary, cooler brand than they are now (then kids even will respond to that, they want what older kids want, not something "mommy approved").

This.

GTA and COD make a fortune from kids cos they are seen  as "cool" and "grown up".

If you market to the dudebros, you get the kids almost by default.

Consider yourself lucky that you haven't been here for the Wii U reveal. For years people had said that Nintendo needs to get ports of the big multiplatform games in order to be a respectable console manufacturer, then when Nintendo said that they are going to get them, the entire thing turned into "LOL why would anyone buy a Nintendo console to play games that they can get on PlayStation and Xbox". Now that the Wii U has failed, conventional wisdom has returned to "Nintendo needs to get multiplatform games on their system".

People just want an excuse to not get a Nintendo system. If it's not one thing, it's another. Sad, really. It's unfortunate that gaming has degraded into this juvenile, territorial war.

People don't want games; they want a brand.

I disagree with both statements. And no I don't consider the Wii U to be a system that was " designed for 3rd party ports".

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

A step in the right direction.
