I know they rely on third parties to sell consoles, but why did they approve of broken games like Assassins Creed Unity get released? Do they beta test the games before release, or do they just let games get released?

They want to make an enviroment that is friendly for devs.Of course, that opens the opportunity for shovelwares to show up,but still,it's a better situation than not having third party support.

That's probably for the best.

What's the alternative? 1st parties having all the influence thus killing competition?

Like MS or Sony would try that alone. If they done that they would lose all 3rd to the other... and if both tried there is a chance they would either go PC or associate to make a new platform.

I think you misunderstood my response. He said 3rd parties have too much influence and I'm saying the alternative is worse because there would be less competition.

Anyhow, Sega is a company that had a history of pushing away 3rd parties. I think we all know how that turned out.

I would suggest it's the consumers fault for buying a broken game. They can decide for themselves if they can compromise with the game's own faults.

yes and no.

most consumers don't read interviews they just go out and buy.

I do agree though and hope one day all game buyers become more proactive in finding out details before they purchase. These day I do not purchase Ibosift game as an example untill I know the extent of the damage.

They were crying over Nintendo iron fist rules (Nintendo controlled the output of titles per year & their quality) back in the day, they left for Sony which let them do as they want, Nintendo had the "Seal of Quality" & it meant something when a game had that seal, now most games games deserve a "Seal of Crappy".
Fortunately when I see a game with Nintendo on it, I know it means quality!

you mean like Metroid Other M, Mario Kart 7 and Smash Bros?

Nice try!

They have to spoil third parties though, maybe not to the extent they do it,but without them, both systems basically have nothing themselves, especially Microsoft

Lmao at the fact that there was/is an AC Unity bundle. It's like giving away a car with a broken engine.

The game isnt broken any longer. I have it and its fixed.

But it wasn't when the bundle hit the market, that is the point. I guess then that you would be happy to buy a car with the engine not working & the salesman telling not to worry, that it will be working in a month or two when they have the new non defective parts!

A car is something that I would give back for the money I am spending if it wasnt working upon purchase. Given my interest in videosgames with a game of this magnitude, I would wait for a patch. Look at the Halo MCC for instance. 343 is doing something tha hasnt been done before, which is having four games in one package and all running online. When tech is being pushed these things happen sometimes. Ubisoft was the one who screwed everyone over in their case though. Pushing a game out of the gate because you need to  meet sales quotas rather than making sure the games quality is ok is a problem. It's a problem of dishonesty in the gaming industry and the offense should be purely attributed to the publisher of said game in this case.

Whilst third parties are important, I do think they have too much influence in the industry.

Balance is what i would like to see, its nice third parties can flourish, but there needs to be someone to tell them to reign it in once in a while.

Well, in the case of Ass cred... Microsoft needed that game in whatever condition it was for their sale. Obviously, Ubisoft didn't have time to complete the game, but they had a deal and they had to deliver it in whatever shape it was in. so in this case you could argue that the nature of the business create situations where companies are obligated to deliver products no matter what.

I mean, it's not like they can really be hard on third parties either. Third parties are the flesh and blood of these consoles, even with their amazing exclusives. PS consoles have always done well because of strong third party support due to the fact that Sony doesn't interfere and let's them do what they gotta do. Same goes for MS. They need these companies more than vice versa, so they're gonna let them do their thing.
