Sony's focused on the PS4 right now... but if they ever drop the price on the PS3 and bundle in some greatest hits I could see it getting pretty close to the 100M mark.

The reason the Wii sold so well is cuz it was marketed at the casual family gaming console. Sure lots of hardcore gamers bought it as well which is why sales were so high, but that seems to be the problem that Wii U is running into. The casual family gamer is probably thinking that they "just" bought the Wii only a few years ago and it works fine for when they want to play and so they don't need an upgrade, so they lost a large portion of their market.

PS4 is irrelevant in developing markets. PS3 is too expensive yet in these countries, let alone PS4. And cloud streaming is pretty much irrelevant in countries were you still get a 1Mbps connection at best in a lot of places. PS4 can't emulate PS3.

I'm a little doubtful, but PS3 will probably have the monster legs that PS2 and PS1 had. In developing countries, PS3 stiill is way more expensive than the mass price.

In Brazil, a PS3 costs R$ 800. The PS2 was around R$ 350 when it was discontinued, as the PS1 was. R$ 400 is a magical price over here. For reference: US$ 1 = R$ 2.60.

It's quite simple!60% decline in 2014 and 3.5M ps3 sold.(As I had predicted,hmmm where is the member who impeached me someday for that,I want him to admit my victory!)
It might decline even more in 2015 unless it gets a great price cut,something that won't make miracles,Ps2 released in 2000 and was discontinued in 2012,i.e 12 years LT,lets say that ps3 will have the same LT,so death in 2018,3 years left,will it sell 16m and more in these three years to pass wii?NO!

P.s PS2 had an anaemic successor,the ps3...Ps3 has a robust successor...the PS4

Ps2 had a great room to grow further its sales despite being succeeded,ps3's room for further growth is shrinking because of the beasty ps4!Lastly ps3 price can't go as much as lower  ps2 price got...

It sold less than 3.5 million in 2014. If it keeps selling like this - it still needs another five years. But it also dropped more than the half compared to 2013, so it seems unlikely it will keep selling at 3.5 million per year.

Interesting, it was highly unlikely back in 2013 that it will catch Wii. People speculated it will ship 11 million in 2013, so it could reach Wii over time (look at my sig and the bet with Lawlight to see, that people really believed PS3 could move that much). Now as PS3 was moving so much less units than these people expected - they still expect it to outsell Wii? How?

I see many people claiming PS2 legs. But PS2 legs had a lot to do with the bad start of the PS3.

Maybe, if it goes on for another 5 to 10 years. Even if it did, I wouldn`t be impressed.
