And thats why I asked this question.  a lot saying yes and a lot saying no.

It's really a tough call, but X1 surprised a lot of people (including myself) with the holidays boost and price cuts that pushed it ahead of the Wii U. Even then, I have to go with "no". Early 2017 would be more reasonable since it would have 2 holiday seasons and it looks like that this is the time where X1 does most of its numbers. June 2016 or January 2016 wouln't do that much of a difference.

You need a new calendar. Zelda pushes hardware, star fox and metroid also do. and no, wii u won't be down YOY.

just a reminder for your MK/smash thinking: they are out and their ltd should more than double in the next years = they will still sell systems while other games release.

Thought I hit 2. Oh well, still. 2012, 2013, 2014.

Zelda does not anymore. Skyward Sword didn't, Twilight Princess didn't, and Windwaker HD was bundled. Any game bundled in would raise hardware sales. Starfox does not sell hardware and will not sell hardware as the last home console release was Assault back in 2005, and the last handheld game didn't even raise hardware sales for the 3DS. Metroid Other M tarnished the brand and didn't move units.

Wii U will be down YOY. It's even down YOY in shipments! Q3 FY 2014 (Oct-Dec 2013) shipped 1.95m Wii U's, and Q3 FY 2015 (Oct-Dec 2014) shipped 1.91m Wii U's!

MK and Smash sold systems when they were released. They will sell to exsisting owners, but their impact on hardware wore off weeks after their launch. Remember Mario Kart 8 and how that "sold" Wii U's weeks after launch? You don't? Oh yeah, because that didn't happen.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287

I do think so, but I think (unlike many others) that the Xbox One's momentum will drop a bit soon, and I predict that 80k sold per week is going to be the new baseline. There aren't nearly as many system sellers on the Xbox One as they need. (same goes for the Wii U, but that's not a big surprise) If my predictions are true it'll be close, but it will most likely happen.

No. it should do it by December 2015 though.

Zelda pushes hardware, but the franchise's smaller than CoD and Fifa, that will be out on X1. Tomb Raider (and Uncharted) are basically the same size. Halo is much bigger and will push more hardware easily.

Star Fox topped 4M 3 gens ago and Metroid never topped 3M. Good numbers, but they wouldn't give that much of a push. How much hardware it pushes is related to how much software it sells. X1 has the advantage of hitting a massive 10-12M franchise against a 4-7M one in the holidays.

Not even.  Playstation has momentum going upward, and the TR reboots install base was on multiple platforms.  Uncharted will sell more, Tomb Raider will sell less certainly.  In fact Halo won't reach the numbers it used to either - MCC did a lot of damage with the core players and the franchise is tired and worn out.  Not to mention a large chunk of those players switched sides, but I digress

Way to completely ignore my previous response that showed how much of your claims are pulled from thin air.  Zelda not a system seller? How about the fact that Skyward Sword sold 1 million units in 3 days and coincided with a ~122% hardware increase for that week for the Wii? This was followed by a ~%35 drop the week after.  So please enlighten us, how does Zelda not move units.  In fact I bet if I looked up launch data on Twilight Princess we would see a similar trend, but once again this is work that YOU already should've done before making such statements.

EDIT - Wait wait wait. So I did look up Twilight Princess and it was a LAUNCH TITLE. As in, It released the same exact day the Wii launched in North America.  How in the hell can you say it didn't move units? How can you even prove that?  In fact it'd be easier to infer that the opposite is true and that a major part of the Wiis success is attributed to this single game, the first major Nintendo IP to use motion control.

and nintendo isnt in a direct armsrace vs a superior console...

why should you buy a xbox for cod or any other multiplatt if you can get the game in 1080p for 50$ more?

Are you really using SS and WW HD as examples for hardware push? WW is a remake and SS was released late in the wii's life. and Twilight princess did sell many consoles and so will Zelda U. star fox, again, you are using a remake for comparison. altough smaller, star fox has the power to sell some hardware. just because other m was average doesn't mean the franchise is "tarnished". if it was, people wouldn't be claiming for a new one.

If you think smash and mario kart won't affect hardware sales even though they will still sell millions each, well, you're just wrong.

I agree with your TR on X1 point. If it was on all platforms, I would expect a 7M entry, now I'm not counting on that. Uncharted will sell more because it is tied to a much bigger base.

Halo however, will do big numbers. If it doesn't beat 360 entries, it will be because of the players that changed size. BF4 and AC: Unity showed us that the supposed "damage" doesn't worn out franchises.

Sorry, but that didn't made X1 break a sweat and it just passed Wii U and put 2M units ahead like it was nothing. Nintendo used their biggest hits. MS still didn't used Halo or Gears. Next year PS4 and X1 will bring the big guns and the advantage will be even bigger. Price advantage is relative. X1 was cheaper these holidays. Now it is their default price. They will bundle some big games and will have a price advantage, something that will probably be followed by PS4. They will drive Wii U down YOY.

Looking at the fact that more people bought a X1 in 1 year than a Wii U in 2 shows that a lot of people don't care and want a Xbox.

And why should you buy a Wii U for CoD or any other multiplat if it won't get the game or will get a 720p/sub-HD port and you will just save 50 to 100 bucks compared to the other consoles? Gamers are in for multiplats. Exclusives are a nice bonus, but they won't define the buy.
