I don't even know who you're trying to mock with this comment.

Blek, Jim Sterling. I'll need to see information from someone I can trust, first.

Why do you think you can't trust him? Just curious.

Destructoid used to be my gaming home a few years ago.  After awhile, it became obvious to me that that Sterling was just a tabloid writer who depended on sensationalism for his "internet fame".  Everything was a rant, often with little regard for facts, often with little or poor sourcing.  When people would point out his mistakes, he'd then rant about gamers, along with the excuse that he was just a blogger so he didn't have to worry that much about accuracy.  While I do agree that we shouldn't be calling anyone in the gaming media a "journalist" without anything to back that up, I completely disagree with the idea that a writer on a major website has no responsiblity to their readers to be as factually correct as possible.

I remember when he wrote a rant about the Vita (I think it was called the NGP then) being a ripoff of the Nintendo DS because it was going to have "two touchscreens".  His source was some obscure blog, but if you went to the real source linked from that, which had the patent information for the console, it was perfectly clear that it did NOT have two touchscreens.  Seriously, how can you not check your information better than that?  I don't think he ever fixed the article.

Stuff like that is why I have zero faith in anything he says unless it's confirmed elsewhere.

Besides that, his reviews would almost always mention cum and piss.  Why?  I can think of no other reason than to be controversial.  That's tabloid writing.

I feel you're mixing up Jim Sterling (the person and gametester) with his deliberatly over-the-top hammy evil brit Jimquisition Character persona where the foul language is supposed to be part of the joke

About the Vita, I never saw that test on destructoid (never went there back then), if you could provide a link that would be nice. Considering he made a Jimquisition about the Vita (reviving the cold Vitae, or something like that) lamenting it's poor sales despite being a system he likes very much and offering quite some interesting ideas, it might possibly have been either a joke or misinformation.

Even with all that DLC bullshit, I was excited for the game at one point. I've seen my brother play the beta a few times and I can't see myself playing this game for more than a week before it gets old.

They made a huge mistake with the PR they released that announced all this stuff a few days ago. It was worded terribly, poorly written, and was just confusing.

But when you get down to the bottom line, there's no big deal here. They don't have day one DLC outside of some worthless skins. The DLC was NOT promoted before the game was revealed or a screen shot was shown as Jim is trying to claim. The game was revealed in an issue of Game Informer, and the website had loads if pics and videos and even developer interviews up for days before they announced the pre-order bonus.

The quote about Evolve being more ready for DLC than any game was taken out of context and was a response to a direct question about DLC asked in another magazine interview. What they meant by that is that compared to L4D, Evolve is much more open to DLC. And it is. You can have new maps, new modes, new weapons, new hunters, and new monsters, all interchangeable with one all independent.

At the end of the day they announced some preorder and DLC stuff before the game was released, and their pricing for the DLC is so laughably bad, I have to believe it's not real. In other words, all things that are pretty much industry standard now. GAF is in a tizzy over this and I think it's just awesome to read.

Idk where people are getting the idea that it's not a complete game either. You can play solo or online. There is a twist on a campaign mode with Evacuation. The grinding required to level up the characters is real. It's just as complete as any other game.

based on what they've announced so far there is less game on the disc than just the multiplayer portion of destiny...

Well that's not really accurate. Evolve has at least 12 maps at launch, which depending on the platform you bought the game on, is more than Destiny (because while we're on the subject of preorder DLC, expansion DLC, overpriced DLC, lets not forget that Destiny has all of that plus timed console exclusive DLC plus timed exclusive console exclusive DLC wrapped inside of paid DLC plus actual on disc DLC). Evolve has 5-6 game modes revealed so far, idk how Destiny is now with DLC and stuff but last I played there were 3-4 modes. Destiny has 3 classes with 2 slight variations on each, but for the most part the characters all play the same, it's just a matter of which super move you prefer. Evolve has 4 classes with 3 big variations plus the monsters.

Even if Crucible having more content were accurate, the difference is Evolve is polished and balanced while Destiny PVP is an unbalanced joke. Or have they finally gotten it right? Idk, but I doubt it. Furthermore the amount of content in another game is irrelevant. All that matters is do you enjoy the content in Evolve enough to warrant the $60. If you don't, that's fine.

I think this actually sums it all up --- most other games are not complete either.

This game is not complete because you get a couple of monsters and have to pay for more.

You get a few hunters and have to pay for more.

You get a few maps and modes and will get more at a later date....

Sure, it's the same as Battlefield, CoD, Assassin's Creed, Halo, Destiny etc.etc.  But those games are not complete either...

It has become commonplace for developers to charge us full price for incomplete games ---- that will only be complete if you pay more money. That was the jist of this video, with Evolve only being used as an example of developers and publishers running wild with DLCs usually intentionally omitted from the main game.

Evolve was delayed to add an offline component and more modes into the game. Doesn't really sound like they were so abundant with content that they decided to hold some off for DLC. TR is a small studio. We'll see if the DLC is kb sized unlock keys like other games or if it's real actual DLC.

The problem with the "incomplete" logic is you can extrapolate it and apply it to virtually every game and even most movies and music. Last of Us is widely considered a masterpiece but has loads and loads of DLC. I guess it is actually an incomplete game? There's a difference between situations like Ass Creed where there was meaty DLC ready so soon from launch and a situation like Evolve where they are still working on it. There's also a difference between a situation like Destiny where there was an obvious shift in the design of the game and we were given something radically different than what was shown, apparently for the purpose of maximizing DLC. Evolve is still the same experience it was shown to be when it was revealed around this time last year.

There are two flaws with Evolve's DLC. One is the price, which I don't expect to be the real price for long because it's just stupid, and the day one skin unlocks you get for preordering/buying "ultra" editions or whatever. But I would much rather see skins dangled as a carrot as opposed to maps like other MP games have done, or weapons, among other actual substantial things. And at the same time if a developer chooses to dangle a map as preorder incentive, more power to them! Day one sales are the most important thing in the world to these guys. I would take that over banning used game sales or having every game come with a one time use activation code.
