Dualscreens are here to stay. They physically can't go back to single screen now. It makes BC and even ports for two generations of handhelds physically impossible. And almost every single DS and 3DS game uses the second screen effectively. Those "gimmicks" aren't going anywhere, and neither is the 3D. All they have to do is replace the c stick with a circle pad or preferably an actual analog stick and it's button layout will be perfect.

But ditching the second screen would be absolutely stupid for Nintendo to do.

Well Nintendo isn't ditching the two screens, so it wouldn't really make sense to ditch the DS branding when they don't need to. That's why I think they'll just call the next thing the Fusion DS or something. The focus of the branding is on the shared brand "fusion" rather then the specifying brand "DS."

And when I say Fusion, I'm just referring to whatever brand they glue to there new NNID platform. What "i" is to "iOS." iPhone and iPad. Fusion DS and Fusion Terminal. They could call it anything. Even if the Fusion rumors are true, I doubt they'd stick with that name anymore since it's been spoiled now. Which stinks because Fusion is such an exellent brand name.

EDIT: And people need to quit it with the Gameboy thing. That brand is dead and the DS brand has housed much better games.

If they stick to the DS line call it the HDS, mark my words itll be the HDS.

I want to see them move away from 2 screens. Back to Gameboy... Gameboy Stream. One big screen, ready to link up with the next home console.

The problem with the name is that we have no idea what is Nintendo going to do. A traditional handheld, a tablet-mobile experiment, the fusion option? It could be anything. I just hope it's backwards compatible.

It should be the HDS!There is no excuse to not have at least 720p screen in 2017!Even,smarthpones of 150$ have a 720p screen!And ds lite succedeed by the dsi revision which had bigger resolution,samely the nintendo HDS will be succeed by a revision with bigger resolution,the Nintendo FHDS but knowing nintendo it could be just the Nintendo HDS+/plus! :P
Next nintendo handheld will be a collaboration with amd!That's a megaton!
Also,iwata's recent interview is very promising!He implied that nintendo won't sacrifice any advanced functions,characteristics etc,as nintendo has done with previous handheld/home consoles!

Either 4DS, or Super Vita  

Copy the Vita specs, or bump them up, and release in various color palettes and dub them Gameboy and Gamegirl Release on it an onslaught of quality titles, and voila, you have a handheld that will easily sell 50million+ units and make insane profits

Might as well continue the trend with 4DS...
