Forums - Gaming - PS4 Region Free In China

This is cruel and unusual punishment. Just put him out of his misery already...ok I will.

Black/grey market PS4s and Xb ones are region free. The official China xb one is region locked. Ergo if you are in China and you want a region free xb one you can get one.

Don't tell anyone, but I watch Blu-ray movies and don't actually buy Blu-ray movies ... I guess that means Blu-ray movies are not good news.

I believe at best it would have worked somewhat similar to what we see on PSN with game sharing. 1-hour sessions with friends that can be repeated BUT only able to do so if the owner of the game is playing as well.

I have not used game sharing yet so not 100% on how it works, but I get the impression that you can't just play someone elses game for 1-hour, but that you need that person to be playing as well. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The person who owns the game can let you play it on your system, but through theirs, but you have to be present to do so. It works wonderfully, though!

So you need to be loaded into the game in order to allow me to play, correct?

Does anyone still think (those who originally did) that Microsoft deserve praise for reversing their DRM policies last year?
They had to do it. That's why they did it. It was either that, or go under.

Some people cited the "We listen to our fans" comment, as reason for the change.
If that's true, why didn't they show the slightest sign of willingness to listen to all the fans pleas before pre-order numbers for PS4 went viral?
What about the US troops overseas, or anyone who doesn't have a permanent or stable internet connection?
"Stick to 360" was basically the reply we got.

After the changes, it still states that they "reserve the righst to change these decisions at any time."

In a world where Microsoft dominate the videogame industry and Sony aren't around to 'keep them in check', many of the things we know and love about gaming would be gone forever.  We wouldn't even be able to play our games offline during this Christmas when the PSN/XBL DDOSing was going on.

Every company wants to make money. But not every company is out to destroy what we love in the process.

It's clear that implementing these anti consumer policies is still something Microsoft wants to do. In spite of 'hearing what the fans want.'
I'd like to think this wasn't Phil Spencer's decision, because he's a gamer.
Whoever made these decisions can't be a gamer, or understand what it's like to be one. At least I hope not.

Many will say it was Mattrick, but he wasn't there anymore when XBox One released in China and they still took a shot at the anti-consumer policies.

Has to be above Spencer or Spencer isn't who we think. I am going to go with the former because I like the guy.

The anti-second hand market DRM (All games containing 1-time activation codes) should have been the giveaway, but we were all blinded. They went full blown pre-180 XBone except for the 24-hour DRM.

At least in China they got the family sharing to make up for it, thanks to MS having that extra year to get it ready.

It was always obvious, but certain people were way too quick to lay the blame on Chinese government and absolve MS of all responsibility, it seemed like a bad idea to get involved in a debate.

Well.... I was one of those people who laid the blame on the government >_<

When I saw that Sony will sell the PS4 and Vita region-free in China, I was really surprised because I assumed Sony also had no choice, but to conform to China's policies. Apparently, I was dreadfully wrong and realized that MS likely enforced the activision code DRM in their own free will...

It works suprisingly well.   Played with someone in Canda and I'm here in the states and it was flawless.

You don't think your original comment was misleading? And your subsequent comments on Page 1 continued in this fashion.
I read it thinking you were referring to the original Xbox One in China, since you omitted the term "import".
Had to browse through multiple posts before I even found out about the most important aspect of your original post.

At the same time, you seem to be derailing from one of the main issues, which is that Microsoft chose to region lock the console, and apply no-second-hand-sales-DRM, when many people in the past claimed that "it wasn't Microsoft's choice, but the Chinese government's."

This is a very interesting development. Especially after Microsoft said "We listen to the fans".
Here we see that they're still trying to get away with these things they 'now know' that fans don't want, whenever they can.

@Bolded final statement

This alone shows me just how little they can be trusted from a consumer standpoint.

A Microsoft lead gaming industry is a downright scary thought. I am shocked at how easily some forgive them, believe their BS about caring about gamers, then only to watch them try their anti-consumer tactics again, not even a year later.

The moment they see an opportunity to try and bring these anti-consumer practices back, don't hesitate for a moment thinking that they won't do it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they tried it again with the next gen.

That wont be an issue, since next gen will be digital only. This gen is basicly digital only, since discs aar only used for first time installs. Blurays cant keep up wth demand of data the hardware can handle.
