Microsoft never changes, huh? I can't belive we all assumed they had to region lock the console there.

The anti-second hand market DRM (All games containing 1-time activation codes) should have been the giveaway, but we were all blinded. They went full blown pre-180 XBone except for the 24-hour DRM.

At least in China they got the family sharing to make up for it, thanks to MS having that extra year to get it ready.

It was always obvious, but certain people were way too quick to lay the blame on Chinese government and absolve MS of all responsibility, it seemed like a bad idea to get involved in a debate.

Glad someone didn't believe my "Family share" joke and realize that that too was likely nothing more than smoke being blown up everyones ass.

I still can't believe that some people to this date believe that you would have been able to share one game between 10 people!

I mean, logic: Block resale of games, require 24-hour checkins, but then turn around and gift 9 copies of each game.

At best, it would have turned out like EA Access - play a pre-selected portion of the game for 6 hours...

Wow so I guess it was Microsoft's decision to region lock after all.  If it turns out the used game thing was their idea too then they haven't learned anything from all the backlash they got.

They learned the very firt day they anounced it after all that backlash. Having to do somthing and wanting to do it are two very diferent things. Here they thought since  the backlash was not from china, maybe they wait untill they started compaining to do the 180. Since not a lot complained, they dint change, now that sony anounced to be the really for gamers, they sudenly had room to drop price but they still look very anti consumer, next they will be region free but still to late, sony will get all the good will. They knew what they had to do from the begining and they chosed not to do it.

So their thought process is the give China to Sony.

Im just waiting for some xbox apolgist to use that as a true fact

People were expecting it to put the XBO over the PS4 in WW sales, LOL.

I hope it's a success because it's the product made for gamers. PS4 is one of the finest pieces of work a company ever released in the console gaming market, actually maybe the best period.
They give the consumers freedom when the rival tries to put them in chains (and they could go along and people wouldn't have where to run), they are in big financial problems and still can provide a best price on a better consoler over the one made by one of the richest companies in the world when again, they would be the logical one to overprice it to try to get the most of it. And even with the lack of money, they are always delivering high quality cutting edge tech games as Driveclub (even having server problems in the beggining) and Infamous this year, and The Order 1886 and Uncharted 4 next year (Bloodborne as well).

Sony is the reason console gaming haven't declined as everyone was thinking.
This generation being a sucess since the start and a possible future good generation happening after it is all in PS4's account.
I hope it sells as much as it's possible can.

And some people still keep wanting to see Sony going out of business... sigh.

Yea, Sony's a pretty damn good company.  One that actually seems to learn from its mistakes.  It also helps that some of the higher ups seem like some of the coolest people, like Shu and Kaz.  House doesn't seem so bad, either (at least what I have seen from him.)  I also don't see them going out of business.  They seem to be making the mistakes of the past, dropping or lowering the investment on divisions that have caused them losses.  It just takes more than a year or two to fix a company that was making poor decisions for about a decade or so.

@Bolded final statement

This alone shows me just how little they can be trusted from a consumer standpoint.

A Microsoft lead gaming industry is a downright scary thought. I am shocked at how easily some forgive them, believe their BS about caring about gamers, then only to watch them try their anti-consumer tactics again, not even a year later.

The moment they see an opportunity to try and bring these anti-consumer practices back, don't hesitate for a moment thinking that they won't do it.

Forget about forgiving them.  What scares me is how many people TRUMPETED these decisions, saying they were the future, just because it was from MS's mouth.  Some who still say they are mad that they changed them, yet also like how well the XBO is doing in the US/UK.  Maybe they don't realize it but you can't have it both ways.  If they stubbornly kept their old policies, I doubt the XBO would have sold any better than the Xbox.

As for your Family Share program comment, I'm pretty sure it was revealed that the vast majority of the sharing was going to be extended demos for your other family members.  So, yea, if people honestly thought they were going to give away 9 copies of a game to people on your "family list," they had another thing coming.

Dam Xbox pretty much brick over there in China. Thank God they have pc to take there time off to relax.

I believe at best it would have worked somewhat similar to what we see on PSN with game sharing. 1-hour sessions with friends that can be repeated BUT only able to do so if the owner of the game is playing as well.

I have not used game sharing yet so not 100% on how it works, but I get the impression that you can't just play someone elses game for 1-hour, but that you need that person to be playing as well. Please correct me if I am wrong.

The article linked, and all previous reports say that XOne is region locked.

Also, PS4 cannot already be region free because it is not available there at all.

I guess you are wrong on both accounts, but that is nothing unusual, as you are often wrong on almost everything.

oh for pity sake. lmao.

This is cruel and unusual punishment. Just put him out of his misery already...ok I will.

Black/grey market PS4s and Xb ones are region free. The official China xb one is region locked. Ergo if you are in China and you want a region free xb one you can get one.
