One of the WiiU's underrated gems.

I thought about getting darksiders II, but it looks like a mash-friendly GoWIII type game, which I do not like. So, I instead opted for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, and was still disappointed by lack of content.
Oh well..

Hmm... no. At least 3D Zelda games have nice puzzle design (sometimes archaic, but still...), while Darksiders II's puzzles consist too many times in that giant ball that you have to move in order to take it somewhere and help opening doors and that kind of stuff; other puzzles are too simple, even more simple. Now, combat is very different to Zelda games, it's faster and more similar to a hack n' slash title and also features a crafting system, where you can grab stuff that defeated enemies leave. Zelda games do this too... but not at that level of complexity. Darksiders II also involves platforming, Zelda games rarely do this (although Skyward Sword kinda uses it too) and Vigil's game is too linear. Now that I think about it, Darksiders II is kinda similar to Skyward Sword, but for some reason the second one feels better. Darksiders II is good, but not very comparable to 3D Zelda entries, at least the classic ones. |
I am not implying that darksiders is a zelda clone, because it has a few features that sets it apart (the prince of persia platforming, Diablo Loot system). However, there are some similarities; to be more specific the dungeon progression design it burrows from the Zelda. Many have drawn parallels between the two and its easy to see why.
Of course, Zelda is a hard game to replicate, but Darksiders 2 is a closest game to a Zelda game from the real thing. A no-frills Zelda. Tastes a bit like Zelda, but no where as good. Its what a poor man would settle for, because they can't get the real thing... if that makes sense.

It's a pretty decent game! Better than the first one imo!

I loved it.
The art direction and atmosphere are really fabulous, and the gameplay's pretty solid.
TBH I never played the original so I didn't really get a lot of the story, but that wasn't too terrible.
Too bad about the technical problems and glitches here and there, though.

loved the first one. Kind of a mix between GOW and Zelda. Liked it more than god of war, but not Zelda. I picked up the 2nd one about a week ago. Haven't played it yet though. I hope the characters and world are as rich as the first. That's what I really appreciated. I feel like if Nordic came out with a 3rd and packed the 1st two in and partnered with Nintendo for marketing they could really find a market. But I thought that with bayonetta and was apparently pretty wrong. It would probably be a lot easier to just sell to the fans that have xb4's. Even with the market saturated in mature action games it would outsell a wii-u version. Nintendo just doesn't have a demographic for it. Unfortunately i'm simply in a minority when It comes to Nintendo's natural demographic.
