Forums - Nintendo - People need to STOP asking for a Wii U with no Gamepad

I love my Wii U but I think the hardware designer should be punished like Sony did with Kusaragi for making the 600 dollars PS3 that made them lose 5 billion dollars and half of their market.

Why not? It has most of the highest rated games this gen and at that price would be attractive to both casuals/families on a budget as well as to hard core gamers as a secondary system alongside a ps4/one. I know I'd be tempted at that price.

It didn't work for the gamecube (which was selling better than the Wii U is right now), what makes you think it will work for the Wii U?

Well having a unique controller worked for the Wii, but not the WiiU. Its not a guarantee that history will repeat itself.

The Wii U and gamecube are very similar consoles. Both have sold terribly, both are/were destroyed by the competition, cheapest console on the market, bad third party support etc.

Alright, so I am making this thread to address a problem I have been seeing all over the internet

So many people keep asking for a 200$ Wii U that does not include a gamepad, THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN. EVER

If you are one of these people, just stop, you can't even access the system settings without a gamepad, most of the games are not even Pro Controller compatible or require the gamepad to play

I know people say the gamepad is under used, but removing the it would not help this problem at all

WiiU sold 4 million in it's first year and sold 3.6 million in the second year. It's probably one of the few console in history that have sold less in it's second year.... maybe other then the doom consoles like 3DO, Saturn and Dreamcast. WiiU needs a radical change.... like what oh maybe removing the costly gamepad and updating the system to support other controller. The WiiU would instantly drop in price to $199 the implulse purchase price. Just think about a Super smash brother/Mario Kart WiiU bundle at $199 that come with a pro controller it would jump off the shelf. People don't want the WiiU for the gamepad they want to play the game.

Am I the only one who thinks the real problem of the WiiU is not really the console power not even the gamepad but a very poor marketing mixed with a terrible taste of so many gamers this days? I mean, i know what i´ve said about that gamers may soudns bad, but... nowadays people wants Assasins´s creed, they want things like Call of Duty, all this stuff is the new cassual games, but they are undercover cassual games that make you feel like a hardcore gamer, or just like seeing a movie (usually plenty of blockbusters cliches) and everyone knows that wiiu is not going to have those kind of games.

Many gamers thought that WiiU was just a tablet for wii, they´re very poor informated, and they think WiiU just have Mario, and Mario isn´t cool because isn´t realistic and violent.... They are not aware that WiiU is having the bests exclusives by far, and 2015 looks incredible. They just think that every new AC is the new God of videogames.

There has to be someway to make see this people how great is this console, graphics are not a problem, look Bayonetta 2, Mk8 or new Zelda, wiiu games look amazing, the quality is not the problem, Nintendo beats One and ps4 on Metacritic by far, even Captain Toad has better scores than the "great" Destiny or Bugity. Price might be a problem yeah, but if people can afford a ps4 and a One, even both, price is not really the problem. Then what?

Well, poor marketing, poor informed gamers and terrible taste of half of them.

So does Wii and WiiU. Both have Wii in the name. Both are from Nintendo. Both comes in black and white. Both have Mario games...

I think the wiiu has a stronger software lineup. 1st party, not third party of course. Nintendo really seems to be turning out some of the best games it has made in years this gen. And I may be wrong, but weren't the ps2 Xbox closer in price to the GameCube at that point?

They may not be ready to have such a low priced console but perhaps come out with a core gamer sku with a gamepad pro and 256 gb of storage or something like dat.

Im not sure they need to expand the internal memory much. No games require installs and it supports external hard drives. It would also cost more.

I'd love to be able to upgrade to a system with a lot more storage.  I use an external hardrive right now but sometimes i like to bring my console to a friends house and it's more combersome with a plug in hard drive. Would like to be able to store all my games just on the system.

Seriously, it's never going to happen guys. That'd be like having a computer without a keyboard.

You mean the $5 keyboard. This would be removing the useless $80 mechanical keyboard and giving them a 5$ keyboard that allows them to play the same games.

Well they probably could patch the system to be less dependent on the gamepad.

So many games actually requiring the gamepad is the real issue.

In my opinion, they should release a Wii U without the Gamepad for $199 and call it the Starter Edition. Then patch all their noteworthy games to work with a Pro Controller. They literally have nothing to lose by doing that and could boost hardware sales.

Wii  was a fad. It brought something new to the market and appealed to the casuals. Wii U doesn't. That's the biggest difference.
