Even if they are just estimates, if the real numbers for Wii U are close to 300k, it's a real letdown given that this year Wii U had MK8, Smash and amiibo and last year, at 230k WW, it only had Mario 3D World.

Some sources (if their patterns held true across others) could put Wii U closer to 300k and 3DS closer to 400-500k so we will see. As I say, Black Friday is by far the hardest week of the year to estimate for as each data source is showing totally different sales patterns and you need a view of all them all to get the full picture. The more data that comes in the more we can refine until we arrive at a final estimate. |
I think most here would appreciate early estimates for PSVita, PS3, X360, and Wii.
Most of us understand there is a big discrepancy, but would be nice to get early numbers for those systems as well, if you can make it happen.

It was completely snowed under by the bundle battle of XOne and and PS4 though this is even lower than i expected.
XOne numbers are also insane, triple what x360 did in 2006!
Wow PS4 could even win this week. Could it pull off the whole year?
Wow, that would be an awesome victory for X1.

Anecdotally, XBOne seems to have done a major image turnaround here in Canada. No one was talking about it before, now everyone is. It seems the mass-market COD DudeBro crowd have jumped on board and decided to upgrade. A bunch of my friends want one now.
PS4 continues to be interesting to people.
Wii U seemed to get some major new interest with Smash Bros. from the Nintendo-friendly crowd.

That would probably mean PS4 could still lock on the 1st place WW. But yes, let's wait for NPD before getting ahead of ourselves!

They had a price cut last year too.
To be honest though the assumption that throwing more Nintendo IP at the problem will get you more sales is probably kinda a shaky one to begin with.
Nintendo IP mostly appeal to the same group of people, the guy who likes Mario probably likes Smash Brothers too, and vice versa. If you like Smash you obviously probably like Nintendo IP properties as that's the whole concept of the game.
Even amiibos (toys based around Nintendo IP) ... is that something that's going to attract a completely new demographic or appeal to the existing Nintendo fan? Especially at $299.99, Wii U is not a token purchase for a young kid either, as a parent I can spend $300 on that + $13 on the toys, or I can just buy them some Disney Infinity figures they'll be just as happy with on their existing PS3/360 ... it's probably an easy choice.
I like amiibo, I've bought every single one, lol, but I'm a Nintendo hardcore fan. I can understand why a parent would say "nope" to that proposition and steer their kids towards Disney Infinity or Skylanders though.
