Forums - Sony - Is the PS4 the most balanced console of all time?

If people weren't so cheap we wouldn't need a balanced console, we'd get an actual great console.

As if 100 or 200 more bucks would matter on a product that will entertain you for at least 5 years.

I agree. Don't know why people think 600 console is too expensive but 60 for a game is ok. Some even buy special editions over 150.

Sure it's the best piece of hardware this generation, hands down.
The most powerful, friendly to develop for and balanced.

360 also was a beast, and more powerful compared to its generation VS PC.
I would say 360 and PS4 are the best piece of hardware of any generation.

No, its remote play feature is inferior to Wii U ;)

MS did but for a camera

This cannot be said of any hardware combinaison ever:

"The CPU is just enough for the GPU it carries"

CPUs in the new consoles are about the same power as the CPUs in the previous generation of consoles, now consoles have always been CPU starved, but they were never equal to consoles from the previous generation... more powerful CPUs would still facilitate development of complex games.

I remember thinking (and I still think) that this honour comes to the Sega Dreamcast, back then it made sense as everything was much more static, but basically the amount of memory could fit the number of vecrtices and textures that the GPU could render at 60fps... (there were a lot of 60fps 3D games on the DC, right from the start! and this make these games still playable to this day).

When you talk about system design the answer " Yes It is ", from price and component available on market, easy to code and hard to master philosophy design. From power and heat, perspective, console small factor and compact design. It's almost the same as the first PS1.

50gb blu ray is not enough. meaning we will see games on 2 discs and maybe more..

no. the cpu is weak and a bottle neck
rest is fine

i dont get, why the clock is just 1.6ghz and 1.75 at xb1

just make it 2 - 2.2ghz and it would fit so much better. no bottle neck any more..

Check your tech knowledge. Every system has a a bottleneck. If you beef up the CPU, then you will have a memory or GPU bottleneck and so on.

Until now, the CPU looks adequate. Mantle showed us that beefy CPUs are really only important when dealing with DirectX.

And don't use AC Unity as an example. The game needs a beastly CPU on PC and demands a GTX 680 as minimum. That things is just a disaster.

why not? (1)i really, really hope, we will see better tech, more improments and more demanding games later this gen.
if all stops now. and ai + npc density is always one part of games, that lack since years...

(2)this 1.6ghz cpu will proabably be a horrible bottleneck later. only way is to let ur gpu calculate things. but if u do that, u cant that gpu ressources for other stuff. but this is all known alreday. consoles are weak especially this new gen. if u dont mind to have the best grafphics and games, its fine ofc

Wasn´t the PS3 and 360 way more balanced for their time and actually really good consoles compared to computers then?

at least they were way more powerful compared to the high end pcs of the same time

I think you are making a much bigger deal of the whole CPU thing than is really called for.

XB1 is 1.75ghz, PS4 is 1.6ghz. The XB1 CPU is just like 10-12% faster than the PS4 CPU. I strongly doubt that with all things considered, every other way the PS4 spend can spend less CPU time (think faster memory) or spend more cpu time (faster GPU) that the 10% CPU advantage the XB1 has over the PS4 makes any kinda real world difference.

Especially if the only game that suggest such a bottleneck is ACU. That game is just an unoptimized mess plain and simple. To take it as anything more than that would be simply reaching.

And there are two thing you said that I find very puzzling (marked them out for you). Both suggest that you either completely are oblivious to how every single console ever made in history grows over time or you are just purposefully being blind to it. For the first thing all I will say is, don't worry... the games we see on these consoles in the next 3 years will put everything we are seeing on them today to shame. For the second, all I will say is pls get serious. First off thats not how GPU compute (on the PS4 works) and secondly, you are (again) making too much of a big deal with the whole CPU thingy.

How dare you call people cheap. They will spend the money if the apple logo on it, and will upgrade every 6months too.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU..

Consoles should cost $1000 each. $200 a year isn't much and it probably last them more than 5 years anyway.
