Forums - Gaming - *Reviews Aren't Accurate Anymore

Remember the times when there was absolutely no corruption in this industry? Yeah, me neither.

I care. Though I'm not saying I wont buy games with bad reviiews just out of interest...

Many here say games are too complex nowadays, I have no doubts about it, but why not release the game only when it's properly finished? I'll tell why, this is a fierce industry with growing agressive tactics.
For instance the AC:U, which I have no doubts it will get properly patched, would it have sold as good if they'd release it mid December? I mean, it would release a monte later with no/less bugs (and better public opinion) but they would have Far Cry, GTAV, LBP, Halo MCC, SSB, etc, with a month out eralier stealing sales. Not to mention Xmas sales in general (people overspend sometimes, so its better to sell the game in Nov than i Dec after peoplealready spent a lot of Money). Laso you have Black Friday X1 bundles. They dind't want to miss out on those so they were like: relaease it now patch it later.

I agree with OP though, early reviews may not be very accurate a few months later. That's why I wait for reviews, at least they'll tell me how the game is at the moment so I buy it/don´t buy it then or maybe buy it later.

I don't like pre ordering in part because of this. However there are a few companies, such as Nintendo, Rockstar, Naughty Dog, Platinum, that given their quality standards I wouldn't mind doing it.

It has all the criticisms I've never cared about because bugs are always over-exaggerated and excused in games like Skyrim. Samey gameplay is the same deal it's excused in franchises like Zelda but not in LBP. I love both those franchises and don't give a crap if they're docked for that because I don't play sequels to get entirely new gameplay. I play new franchises for that. I play sequels for REFINED gameplay and ADDED gameplay to what was there before. Sounds like they did that so I'm good. In the end LBP is one of the games where reviews matter least because user generated content is what keeps you coming back. Can't wait to see my favorite LBP2 levels with all those improvements and of course all the new top rated levels popping up each week with the new tools people will have :)

You seem to be misunderstanding what reviews are for. First and foremost they're services to the consumer to help with purchase decisions. They're NOT to stroke some gamer's or developer's ego. So they need to reflect the product at its launch because that's when consumer interest is at its highest.

To mention that a game might improve later or even to do another review when the game is patched is at the discretion of the reviewer. That's why people should only trust and follow reviewers they know.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I care about reviews. I don't have much time or money to play every game that I'm interested in, so I always look at the reviews of games before buying.

I stopped caring about reviews ages ago and I haven't looked back since.

Back in the day there weren't patches because games were incredibly simple.

How far we talking here? Back in the day, we had no internet so developers had to make sure their games worked.

True. We all know that. My point is something that a lot of people keep ignoring: just how much more complex games are nowadays. Expecting the games to have as few bugs as around the ps1/2 era is unrealistic.

Anymore? Were they ever accurate in the first place?

Well, they seemed to be a bit less dramatic back in the previous gens.

Very underrated, because of controls, many dismissed this game. Its even created by Sakurai, Kirby/SSB creator. (though it still got a great score 83 meta)

Though many games have a chance to top this (First being SSBU this coming friday), its definitelyprobably be my number 1 handheld game, and maybe of all time :)

Games that could top it are XCX (wiiU) + KH3 + FFXV + Zelda U, but all on Console. Cant wait!

I actually stopped playing because of the controls. Well, at least I tried it for myself

I hope (well dream) it ports to the wii u for dual analog nd people give this a second chance. It really is a deep action game, fun and multiplayer is a blast.
