MS definitely won't raise the price back to $399, that would be insane.
More scary for MS : the no-game vanilla $399 PS4 is back on top of $349 double-game AC bundle X1, and has been for a little bit now. No other SKUs even close, the next one being Destiny PS4 waaay up there in the irrelevant rankings.
So once the MCC / price-cut bump passed, PS4 is back on top for day to day sales. Price for a PS4 + game = $459, price for an X1 + game(s) = $349, and PS4 is still outselling X1. Now THAT is panic stations, as the entire $349/MCC bump for early November can be erased on BF alone if the stock is available.
I expected X1 to take November NPD, but now I'm more like 60/40 PS4 takes it by 5-15%. Globally it will be laughable.

didnt knew about that, Novembers NPD is gonna be easily the most interesting one of the year.

Well why would they not expect teh PS4 to perform amazingly in 2015? And what makes you think they won't stay competitive in the US? The XB1 has not taken the lead YET it is still over a million behind. Why would they just jump at every move MS makes? Why panic or even be fazed after only 1 week? Wouldn't it be smarter to wait it out and see if the price cut is long term or if the sales the XB1 received was just a spike or a new baseline? It makes ABSOLUTELY no sense from a business perspective to do anything at this point. They are trying to profit as much as they can right now and are still leading WW and only got doubled in the US for 1 week(as far as we know). So they made the correct choice.
As for your second statement they more than likley did think of that BUT because that has not happened YET they do not need to react to it just yet.

i take back what i said about 2015, with Bloodborne, Uncharted 4 and all those japanese exlcusives coming up (including Persona 5 in Japan) then 2015 is gonna be the new 2009.
also im not saying that they are not gonna be competitive, its just that i want them to be MORE competitive than what they are now, but if what Arkaign said is true, then they made the right choice and it seems they might have a chance of coming close to wining if Black Friday gives them a big boost. (which is possible).
as for the second statement that i highlighted, i know that is the smartest move, but since the holidays move so many units i just want to see Sony being more competitive in that period, thats why i said what i said BUT it seems that despite the lack of a price cut they might just have a chance at winning November NPD.

Then they can drop the price. Think of it this way. Microsoft needs to sell the equivilant of extra units to regain that lost price. If it doesnt microsoft cant just re up the price again it just creates pr problems. Sony can at any time drop the price but as long as current numbers dont drop why should they? Its not about selling the most units at the expense of profits on. Its about cutting expenses and increasing revenue for the ultimate goal: as much profit as possible. Software royalties is another thing entirely but you can be damn sure whether a pricedrop is coming or not is decided by people who knows alot about consumer behaviour and attachment rates than you and i do.

well it seems like those people made the right choice, if what i read from the first comment to my post is true.
