Forums - Nintendo - Prediction: BRB will blame WiiU hardware about Sonic Boom

Prediction: the next third-party Wii U game that gets low reviews scores on release, someone will make a thread saying, "wait and see, they're going to blame the Wii U hardware."

Would it be better if I made a thread instead saying, "Wait and see, they'll never mention the Wii U again at all"?

Because the game in question would probably be Watch_Dogs, and Ubi has already said everything they have to say about the Wii U.

As someone who grew up with mario, zelda and Pokemon, I have no idea what a good sonic game is. The only sonic game I have played so far besides those random emulated ones on the internet (and I never completed those) was Generations which I completed. My main problem with that game was the old sonic since modern sonic just... well he was easier for me.

From that game since a lot of you consider it good, a good sonic game would be fairly fast and challenging with a few on rail sections. (keep in mind I beat it about a year ago and never went back).

Quite frankly, I feel sorry for sega. I see them as the kind of developer that is damned if they do damned if they don't when it comes to their sonic franchise. Sonic boom should have been pushed back to an early February/January game to iron out the bugs and make the gameplay more robust. From what I've seen its not a bad game, its just unpolished. Rushing is what kinda screwed it over (the Wii U version that is). I've heard a lot of positives about the 3DS version though.

I think sega needs to do 2 things. The 1st is sit down and think sonic over properly. Ask other developers if need be for ideas and take their time and craft a solid game that focuses on speed, on rail sections etc along with a good 3D plane for home consoles. They can do it, they just need a push.

The 2nd is go to nintendo and do a sonic and mario PLAT FORMER cross over. No joke, This would not only move Wii Us but it would be something fans of both series have wanted for the past decade. and we know nintendo wont allow a mario game to be bad so they'll work hands on and delay if need be with this one.

Those are just my two cents on sonic.

If you don't mind revisiting the DS, check out the first Sonic Rush game. It's a 2D platformer with fun high-speed action.

This is definitely a bad game, I'm watching a let's play of it (Cobanermani456, a huge Sonic fanboy) and even he hates it. It has PS2 graphics, lot's of glitches and bugs, uninteresting story, extremely repetitive combat system, mediocre platforming, etc.

In Cobi's latest vid of this game he shows you a part of the game how it looked in Alpha mode and how it looks now. What a BIG difference, it looked a lot better when it was first shown off.

Anyway, Sonic is and has always been a mediocre franchise. I've seen people call Adventure 1 & 2 the best 3D Sonic games and those games are complete trash. Never played any 3D Sonic games, but watched some let's plays of it and lot's of reviews. Especially the ones from SomecallmeJohnny are very in-depth, check them out if you have the time (I think they're 40 minutes long).

I love my DS lite, I don't own a 3DS. My aunt.... well.. the cycle of life happened and I'm just the one who uses her 3DS which is why I got to play pokemon x among other things. I owned quite a lot of DS games considering we never got more than 5 games a gen so I'd be happy to add another to my collection. If I can find it for cheap(under $10) I might pick it up tomorrow or when I get money back from my mom.

I've only played the Genesis games extensively. Sonic never felt "fast" to me, it was actually kind of slow. I'm sure really skilled players could get through stages quickly, but as speedrunners just abuse glitches to clip all the way through the game, I've never seen evidence to support this theory.

I like how the old Sonic games incorporate a lot of vertical platforming, something Mario doesn't have a lot of. The later levels also tend to have multiple pathways you can take, which makes replaying them more fun. My favorite levels feel 'layered', with a high route and a low route that intersect at points, allowing you to mix and match, pass from one to the next. Mario levels are very horizontal by comparison, and although many have underground 'shortcuts' by way of pipes (or aboveground by way of vine/clouds), the transition feels very solid and it feels more like a shortcut than like one of multiple 'branches' of the level.

The direct tradeoff is that Sonic games have far fewer levels than comparable Mario games.

That's what makes 3D World and the Cat Suit so good. Especially the last level in Bowser Land.

And you can never forgot those vertical SMB3 levels with cloud platforms! But those were really rare yet extremely fun.

I really haven't played many 2D Mario games. I never had a NES or a SNES. I have Mario Land 2, Super Mario Advance (US SMB2), and more recently I've played some of the original on 3DS VC. I have the gist of their level designs, but I'm sure there are some exceptions I haven't seen.

Seems like whenever there's a cloud section, it's like a shortcut. Lets you pass over a lot of the level. Not that it's bad, because it's a reward for finding a secret. By no means am I saying I dislike Mario games, just explaining that to me the appeal in Sonic platformers are the vertical platformering and larger, sometimes downright confusing levels.

As much as I'm a massive Sonic fan, I must accept that I think it's over. The last Sonic game I loved was released in 2001 (SA2 of course). Since then it's been disappointment after disappointment. Rush and Colours were ok. Generations was mediocre in my opinion (completely on rails, none of the freedom of the Adventure games). 06 and Unleashed were flat out horrible. Boom Wii U, besides being a buggy mess, looks just really clunky and no fun to play. Boom 3DS is certainly that based off the demo.

Sonic can't bounce back from this. It's been too long. If it proves one thing, it's this. When did Sonic truly fall off the rails? When Sega became a third party company is when. I wonder what would happen to Nintendo's franchises if they did the same...I hope to never find out!

As for this waste of time BRB, if they want to blame the console they can, but the question then would be obvious. Why can Nintendo make stellar games for it and you produce a horrendous mess like this?

Everyone heard the words "Naughty Dog devs" and got a boner. I honestly can't remember what it feels like to play a good Sonic game.

Thats because they have never existed, at least not in this universe.
