Forums - Nintendo - Will Sonic Boom be a hit for the Wii U?

Not even close. Looks really bad, and the gameplay looks stiff and worse than Lost World.

Will outsell Lost World because the show and bigger install base, but still not that much, probably 45k ltd

Npd leaks appointed that LW sold past 100k some time ago. Sonic may not be great, but is a big ip for sega. I see outselling with the LW game, but problably because the show looks actually good. Let's wait and see.

Sorry, I mean 450k

i'm pretty sure this franchise is damaged beyond a quick fix. It will take multiple good sonic games to get it back into a "hit" franchise. That being said, this on looks like the best there has been in a while, but it's still going to be held back by certain "traditions".

Sadly, they were on the right track.  Colors was pretty good, and I really enjoyed generations.  I'm not entirely sure why they didn't keep working with that style.

My question is why people seem to hate sonic games. Sega tries to please sonic fans with speed and they reject the hell out of it, they try to make it more platform heavy same thing happens. I think boom will actually get good reviews and show some pretty good legs, the TV show will also help a bit. What I don't see it doing is moving a significant amount of Wii Us

Fanbase is so varied they constantly change everything for the worse rather than improving one - two core modes of gameplay like they used to.

Because of 06 and StH to a degree, they gave up on 3D entirely, even though SA2 was a great game and SA was pretty decent too.

Generations was also really good, but they ignored the lessons they learned from it in colors and lost world.

Colours came before Generations. And frankly I liked it better; Generations was good, but switching from classic to modern Sonic physics highlighted the weaknesses of both. And having a Sonic '06 homage level was like Nintendo patting themselves on the back for the Virtual Boy, haha.

If the cartoon gets popular it might sell fairly decent numbers. But to gamers it wont sell that much and will get a metascore of about 70 max.

Yeah, this is gonna get torn to shreds by critics for not being "speedy" enough.

Not speedy enough and simplistic platforming is my guess. Along with cheesey characters.

But all sonic games arent 'speedy' enough anymore. Sometimes I feel reviews wear thick nostalgia goggles when reviewing new Sonic games.

As long as its not as buggy as Sonic 06 should already make it get a 50 metascore.

Frankly, I think the Genesis Sonic games are overrated due to nostalgia. They have the same problems as modern Sonic; when you're going super fast it's more cutscene than gameplay, and when you slow down, the actual platforming is pretty mediocre. Even the best ones are good, not great.
