Considering the fact that the 3DS has no direct competition, it will easily go beyond 100 million.

The Gameboy Advance had no competition and that only just sold above 80 million....

It was also replaced by the DS 3 years into its lifespan, so its actually pretty impressive it sold so much in such a short time.

Anyway, 3DS won't sell 100m at this point. It just doesn't have the momentum in the West. I see it definitely going above 70m though, maybe even matching GBA sales by the end of its life.

no, the 3ds lifespan is almost over should be replaced by the end of 2016 so yep, no

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Very unlikely, the 2DS also gave overall sales a huge boost but look at the state of the 3DS global sales about a year after the release. It will give a good boost this holiday season but nothing lasting that will bring the totals anywhere near 100 million; at the point of its fourth birthday, it will barely be at half that and there's no way it will sell as much in the next four years as the past fours years and it is very unlikely to have a very long lifespan either in today's market.
100 million is simply impossible, I still think 80-ish is a much better bet when all is said and done and I still think the 3DS will be down yoy in 2015.

How about, I don't know, maybe wait to see how it does in the West before declaring it successful in the West since it hasn't even launched here?

Nintendo would be downright stupid to release a brand new handheld in 2016. They made that exact mistake by releasing the DSi XL in 2010 and then launching the 3DS the next year. No one who bought a DSi or XL was ready to buy another handheld so soon. They have to give some breathing room between releases, wait long enough for people to be ready to buy their next handheld.

Nope. Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe 75m lifetime.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

The 2DS actually didn't give such a big boost, and was never released in Japan at all. It's a much different product from the New models.

That said, at this point Nintendo will have to work very hard to get the 3DS over 70 million.

Nintendo been doing this for a long time, look how quick they killed the wii, people here where expecting it to last the longest because you know the gen leader is the one who is suppose to last the longest lol ( by kill I mean pretty much stop supporting it decently and killing its sales)

I didn't say they wouldn't do it, I said it would be stupid. Nintendo does stupid stuff all the time.
