Nintendo brand hardware may be gone sometime in the future but if they are willing to team with Google or any other company that will allow Nintendo, they can still sale many of their games to a much bigger audience.

Nintendo will have to pay royalty fees if they go third party for Xbox and Playstation which probably won't exist in the future anyway thanks to smart devices and freemium games.

But a company like Google would help them just out of the kindness of their heart?

If they become a first/second party to Google devices they will pay less royalty fees.

They can do the same with Playstation and Xbox but that's limiting sales.

edit: I see i forgot to mention they will pay more royalty fees if they make games for xbox or playstation.

No its shifted to Mobile.
i can play bioshock , crazy taxi gta sanandreas and old pc games as well as indies on my Tablet and Phone
why would i need inferior hardware with games that 39$
while i can buy GTA Sanandreas for example $3 or $4

3DS hardware sucks much and iPhone and Android is much better than 3DS

Let's not get ridiculous here. You can't honestly be calling a phone a better gaming platform than the 3DS.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Wait, just to clarify, are you seriously saying that Nintendo would make more money from releasing their games on Android devices than from releasing them on PS and Xbox? Wut?

I'd happily play on my 'dead' handhelds than to try to game on my ipad. It just doesn't feel right.

No physical controls, no point.

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Wouldn't being first/second party to Google mean that Google would own all their new ips though?

Even if that's not the case they would probably make more money by just being multiplatform and paying the fees. Especially with some of their games... I'm thinking Pokemon MMO for PC...

Oh shoot I didn't think about that.

Nintendo games are better suited to  the smart phone/tablet users though. And that market will continue to increase while home console games continue to decrease.

And Pokemon can work well with anything. But it would work better on smart phones and smart devices given its social aspect of trading.

Wait... Malstrom is an "old-school" Nintendo fan who LIKES the Wii but DOESN'T like the N64/GC? What kind of old-school Nintendo fan is that?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Its' dying, but not dead quite yet. I still think it's useful to have dedicated device so I'm not wasting my phone's battery. There are also the games, more immersive and with the big names; Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, various RPGs and such. Can't get that kind of stuff on mobile.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Given how much people own a smart phone and tablets, yes I think Nintendo games will make more money on those. They just need a way to make an attractive add-on for your smart phone for tigther controls. Shouldn't be too hard considering how popular blue tooth keyboards are for tablets and screen covers are for smart phones.

I can imagine them selling a add-on that comes bundled with a 2D Mario game or a 3D Zelda game. If they get great reviews, Nintendo fans will buy it.

Wait... so that Sean Malstrom guy claims to be an old-school Nintendo fan but doesn't like the N64? The N64? Seriously?

I'll add a gif

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Don't forget the different pricing models though. On PS, Xbox and PC Nintendo could charge £40 per game and sell millions. On phones and tablets they would probably have to sell at about £1 per game to sell a comparable amount.

Nintendo can get away selling their games for 30$ again. Especially if it gets great reviews. They just need to make an official statement they will drop their hardware business and focus on what they do best - making quality games. If reviewers rate the game highly, Nintendo fans have no where to go but to buy these games on those devices. And you can bet Google will put these games on the front of their android store.

They can even take the "freemium" approach with some games. A 2D Mario games has 8 worlds and a special world. Pay 30$ for all of them. If not pay a ninth of the full price for one world. And if they want the toad shop with items to reappear (disappears after one use and reappears after you lose all lives), they can pay $1.

A lot of people already have an Android cell phone, so the only issue is trusting the reviewers and Nintendo their games will still be high quality on a different platform.
