nope for a game that wants everyone to be social it has the least amount of social features available in game

And at the end it makes you more social.

The lack of social features didn't change that like it was posted in the first part of the OP... it forces you to be more social opened.

The question is not about if it have the social features that Bungine promised but if it makes you more social like Bungie promised... and in my opinion (and others if you read the GAF thread) it makes... and it well successful in that part.

Wow. That's spot on spin that Nintendo would use for them not having normal voice and mute functions in their games.

Not having voice chat is a issue for social interactvity.

The game needs voice chat but I'm dropping the ball with text chat... text chat didn't open a person in a social way... voice chat is the way to go... Destiny needs to improve the voice chat features (same appies to Nintendo).

If anyone is arguing Destiny needs text chat lol. It's a console game. Unless you're talking about a PC version. Most people don't use any of the KB's for the consoles. I sure wouldn't. That's a full of annoying issues to deal with one.

Not for me personally, I still only talk to my friends when playing Destiny. When I play with randoms I don't even have my mic plugged in.

Did you play Raid/Nightfall/Weekly in a random fireteam with mic off?

I can see that working with Nightfall and Weekly but not in Raid.

PS. Yesterday I beat the Raid with a random group and after that everybody said we can play some Iron Banner now... so we playing some Crucible matches talking about a lot of things even not gaming related... it was fun and everybody give a lot of laughs... this is "social" in my view.

I played with my friends on the Raids (since there is no matchmaking) the weekly heroic strikes are easy enough to do by myself. Maybe when they add Raids to matchmaking I'll use my mic with randoms since those actuallly require good teamwork to beat.

I see.

Maybe it is just my case because I don't have a fixed schedule to play and most scheduled Raid I couldn't participate... so I play Raid with randoms and with all of them I made some kind of relationship... they are my gaming friends now... I talk with them... help or be helped in the daily/weekly activiites.

And the list is growing.

Some funny facts.

These days I was playing a mission with others guys... and a random guy sent me a Party Chat and I entered and I found they are a group of Brasilians and they was asking me if I can participate of their Raid or at least enter start the Raid for them because all of them already have the Raid at the last boss save.

I asked just some minutes to finish the mission with my friend and after I will start the Raid for them... while I finished my mission we started to talk about Brazil stuffs like Politics (it was a week before the Presidential elections)... it was really really cool.

I couldn't participate of their Raid that day due the time but all of them sent me firend request after and I already played Raid and others stuffs with some of them and even participate in others Party Chat.

I had 80 friend in my PSN before Destiny... I have right now close or over 200.

That is what I believe to be a social thing... not play with somebody else texting like I do in Warframe.

I don't see how playing with somebody via matchmaking make you be friend of him... it is the opposite in my view.

About your answer I agree... I think neither Bungie predictied how the social the game could be due the lack of social tools... it was just a good coincidence.

Same way it works in any other game that has integrated voice with matchmaking.  I'll put it in steps for ya

Step 1: start matchmaking

Step 2: get into game once matchmaking complete

Step 3: say hello

Step 4: assess if you would want to play with person again based on small talk and skill levels

Step 5: send friend request

Step 6: play together again later

Yeap but that didn't happen in most of games... you didn't even talk with the guys in the matchmaking... just play like they are bots.

That is how it worked for me in all others game I played... when I needed to talk with somebody  I used text chat instead voice.

text chat in the console version of destiny would be dumb and unneeded. no one has keyboards.

..i do wish that i could see my guild mates in game and i do wish that i could talk to to people i'm playing with via matchmaking and i do wish there as on option to have matchmaking for raids. even though my friends list has exploded it's still hard for me to be online at the same time as my friends for a raid. i just can't make the 5pm start you guys are doing. as bad as pugs are it'd like to at least try the raid.

but i've met soo many new gamers since starting destiny. it has been great.
