Forums - Nintendo - Real reason big budget 3rd party games are not on Nintendo systems

That entire last paragraph reads as nothing more than excuses and justifications.

If having third-party games on your system means that you aren't "following and imitating" then bravo, Iwata, you're doing wonderfully.

How is it?

Multiplats have an estabished fanbase on other patfforms. So it woud be stupid for Nintendo to participate in the "price-war" and "money giving" with microsoft and sony, because the reaiity is that these titles will not sell well on Nintendo systems nor will they move consoles. This is the pathetic reality that Nintendo find themselves after shitting on the heads of their partners in the 90's and chasing the gold last gen.

So it would be smarter to look for other ways to strengthen relationship with 3rd publishers right? Going for something unique that creates a win-win situation for both Nintendo and the partner would be ideal right? Something like collaborative titles. We have already seen the fruits of this "unique approach" that Iwata talks about in Hyrule Warriors, and soon to be Pokken Fighters and Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem.

Sure you could argue that their have been only a handful of collab tites, and the lack of western coorporation. But considering that this is a recent trend with Nintendo, it is understandable.

Here's what I don't understand.

Where did Nintendo use the profit they made from last gen? Especially when they were only competing against the last gen consoles with the Wii U?

Why did they sit on their hands for a year and do nothing?

I keep hearing about how Nintendo is trying to establish 3rd party relations in alternative ways.

I don't buy that crap.

Fact is they are still stuck in the 90s, thinking they can devs will just prostrate themselves at their feet, and beg to only be allowed to release 5 games per year.

When you don't even support your console, how can you expect the industry and consumers to do the same?

EDIT: I mean look at the PS3 vs the PS4, Sony developing the PS3 was exactly how Nintendo developed their own consoles, doing their own thing. That's fine and dandy but don't expect third parties to hand you your games on a silver platter.

Because they dont sell

Not exactly surprising, when they leave out features and then sell it at the same price as the other versions.

Can you name a big budget 3rd party title that released on a Nintendo system, was released at the same time as other systems with all of the same features, was advertised equally with the other versions, and still struggled (semi-relative to install base)?

WHOA WHOA is that the same Bethesda whose sole efforts on Nintendo platforms consists of a port of a PS2 Star Trek game and an unplayable arcade racer with broken physics? I totally trust their opinion.

This isn't a situation that just suddenly came about.  This should have been addressed long, long before the Wii U was ever released.  Yet we had important western developers saying that, even though Microsoft and Sony kept in constant contact, Nintendo never spoke with them at all.  It's not about "price wars" and "money giving", it's about creating a platform where third-party developers and publishers feel like they can perform well.  Sony and Microsoft have both done that from the moment they stepped into the industry--why hasn't Nintendo, which has been around far longer?

Third-parties don't avoid Nintendo because of a grudge, they avoid it because they know nothing has changed.  Nintendo is only about Nintendo.  They've never tried to create a situation where everyone prospers, only one where they have full control and lion's share of the profit.

Besides, Monster Hunter makes this entire argument sound very hollow.

Publisher not Developer.

Plus they made TES so they can do no wrong. Also screw Zenimax.

Damn, so they're even LESS qualified to comment.

EDIT: The article in your link was dismantled when it was first posted here; no need to repost it ad nauseam.

I'am not arguing the fact that in the past that Nintendo has shitted on their partners. I've admitted that in my first comment

I am addressing your statement that Iwata was making an "excuse" in that last paragraph. I suggest you read my reply again
