Forums - Nintendo - Bayonetta 2 sold 67% of it's initial shipment in Japan

2 days is normal for Japan, and there is almost always a huge drop, yet for some reason for this game it has been pointed out a lot like it's not normal.

Around the Network

The numbers are not good in 2 ways - the bottom line opening sales were low for such a great game ( or games) and it is clear Nintendo had low expectations for sales as well-

I don t understand why they invest the money to have W101 and Bayo 2 developed but then not fully support sales efforts for either game-

I don't know how anyone can fault 3rs party developers for not supporting the Wii u- when you see how poorly that quality 2nd party games do on the console

Nintendo doesn't ship the units unless they are ordered by retailers. Retailers ordered so few copies. Otherwise, Nintendo did its part as far as it can be done with ads and commercials as well as the directs. There just wasn't much faith in retailers for the title.

"According to Media Create, Bayonetta 2 sold roughly 39,000 units in its first week. But this doesn’t paint the full picture.

Media Create also shares a bit more about Bayonetta 2’s sales. The game actually managed to sell through 67.29 percent of its initial shipment. There weren’t sell-outs, but Bayonetta 2 did end up shifting approximately two-thirds of the shipment.

It’s also important to remember that Bayonetta 2 launched in Japan on September 20. Media Create’s reporting period for the week ended on September 21, so the game did not come close to experiencing a full week of sales."

Not bad.

So the origingal shipment was not even 60k units.

Well then, the only story here is "Bayonetta 2 ships with tiny unit showing that high sales were not excpected".

It actually is 67% in the first two days. How is that bad?

Successful games usually have a sell-through of 80-90% on first week. Japanese shops are very reluctant to order too much. While were was worse sell-through, this is no good number.

You think Nintendo has some a good job advertising Bayo 2?   If Nintnedo thought retailers seriously under ordered stock, they have the ability to get more in the sales channel-  they did not - either way both Nintendo and the retailers were correct in their assessment -  that demand In Japan would be low - Lets hope expectations and demand are higher in the West

39k is about what I expected. That's probably going to be 200k lifetime in Japan. At least it's going to top The Wonderful 101, Platinum's last Wii U exclusive, it's only sold 50k life-to-date in Japan.

200k with a 39k opening in Japan?

Heavly bundles?

They should've released a Wii U bundle with Bayonetta 1&2 from the start.
