Probably not. I think Nintendo will buy more developers and will hopefully fix it for their next console

well like Nintendo has hinted at a few times now, im expecting them to fully unify their handheld and home consoles next gen to the point that both peices of hardware are nearly identical and will play all the same games as one another.

With the increase of developement time/costs for HD games (im also assuming it takes quite a bit more time/money to develop for 3DS compared to previous handhelds) Nintendo can no longer give strong support to two completely different peices of hardware and this would get even worse next gen as time/costs continue to increase.

The best solution is to unify these devices and essentially focus all their attention on one platform. Also this ensures that Nintendo's next console has all the hardcore Japanese 3rd party support and child-friendly western support that Nintendo handhelds are use to getting.

Well... The whole unification into one console is a bad concept/idea imo cause if its fails, they are royally fucked. Like for example, right now, the wiiU is selling terribly but the 3ds is selling very nicely so it evens out the losses. (Obviously not like even even but you get what I mean) Vs, if they have one device and it fails, well, for the next 5 years, they will not be making any money at all which is really bad. Sure, you could say, oh, one platform = more games and that is a valid point but it also results in higher risk if the platform isn't appealing, then good luck. Specially since that if you make it a portable console, like a tablet, well, it will be very underpowered compared to the ps5/x2 just cause it wont have the power requirement. And if you make it a console, well then u have places like Japan where they seem to hate buying consoles. (Those are just examples btw, there are many other reasons as well)

What they should do instead is do what they have always been doing and just do a console + handheld. The only difference this time around should be that they are the same architecture, just the handheld version will be lower powered that way, all they should really have to do in order to port it is have lower graphics and there shouldnt really be that much recoding involved and this way, they dont have to rely on one SKU to be a success

u misunderstood me, i fully agree that they should still have seperate handheld and console skus, just that the hardware is nearly identical so that they can release all games on both devices.

i think the handheld variant will be moderately more powerful than Vita just as 3DS is moderately more powerful than PSP. Something that can render Wii U quality visuals at a lower resolution/frame rate.

the console variant will be slightly more powerful than Wii U, similar to the jump from Gamecube to Wii. it will render the games at a higher resolution than the handheld version.

these devices will use games carts like DS/3DS use but higher capacity. Each will be sold in the $149-199 price range and launch sometime in 2017.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

That would be damn sad if they dont even release a 3D Mario on Wii U

?????

I meant a real 3D Mario like 64 or Sunshine...Or at least Galaxy.A lot of us want that, tired of Mario Land/World.

Mario adventure games are so good

3D World has a lot in common with Galaxy, the second half of the game is basically Galaxy 3 (there's even plenty of space themed levels).

Sunshine was a tiresome bore by the end, it really doesn't feel much like a Mario game.

Imo, 64=>Sunshine >>>>>>>>>>Galaxy because Mario adventure games are the best, it's sad they gave up that kind of Mario

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

They will, but third party developers are money hungry jerks, so expect 1 game per year from them.

Not sure what makes you think WW is one of the least favorite Zelda, i hear the opposite from most fans who think TP is the worst of the serie. ( and TP didnt sell so much compared to WW , at the opposite when you compare the install base of both consoles 22M vs 100M )

Wii could play Gamecube so its not like the 100 million fanbase couldn't buy the game if they so wanted, WWaker was not a popular title and it didn't have a long lasting adoption. Twilight Princess came out at launch with the Wii and outsold WW by over three million by the end of it all.

The Wii's numbers are highly deceptive, too, since so many of them were casuals with no interest in anything more than Wii Sports.

I'm starting to doubt the Wii U ever going past GC sales, and the Wii U will have to settle for the consolation prize...no pun intended.

At least there will be enough first party IP for the Wii U that gamers won't feel any hurt. From a business practice standpoint I really admire Nintendo, it's just they made a ton of mistakes with the Wii U and it bit them in the ass. My gut is that we're looking at new hardware in 2017.

This generation is basically a wasted one for Nintendo, they will just have to regroup and try their best with the Fusion concept.

Not at all.

Garage got off the ground within EAD in a big way. Next Level moved up in the world and are a much needed Western dev (they still need a couple more). They came to learn how HD development will affect their costs, times of development, and resource management. They're building good bridges with indie devs and pushed forward Nintendo Frame Work and almost universal engine support for development.

If they can fix their Nintendo OS and their account systems, they will be in a good position.

They've lost money every year since 2011 (the year the 3DS launched). The 3DS become profitable, right when the Wii U then became an achor on their bottom line.

They're looking at going from 100 million consoles to maybe 18 million this generation. From 150 million handhelds down to probably about half that.

But yeah ... they finally figured out what HD is 10 years after every other developer. Progress. Nintendo's needed a "couple more Western developers" for about 12 years now.

This generation has been a nightmare for Nintendo, probably one beyond their wildest dreams. This is a company that never posted a full year fiscal loss in almost 100 years of operation prior to this generation starting. The sooner they can write this whole five year period off probably the better. I think Nintendo would prefer that the last few years never happened.

You cant compare a nintendo remake to a PS3 remake, a lot of gamers on PS4 hadnt PS3 so the sales were logical.

While most nintendo gamers had a GC or a Wii, so a remake  wont have the same effect than TLOU ( like we saw with WW HD)

Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword on the WiiU would easily outsell WWHD, and TP would probably outsell TLOUR. WWHD, arbuably, never needed a refresh as it still looks good even on the NGC, but SS and TP really aged poorly, and Twilight Princess is one of the most popular titles of the series because of its exposure on the Wii to the general public before the Wii "fad" ended.

Many people would pick these titles up because they actually gain a lot from an HD facelift unlike TLOUR/WWHD.

Excuse me while I go puke....

Not only is that line wrong,  general consensus amoung LoZ fans is that Twilight Princess was the worst Legend of Zelda title. bad story, extremely linear, etc. Majoras Mask and OoT are the only 3D Zeldas touted as the best. LTTP, and the Capcom LoZ games were considered the creme of the LoZ crop.

The only people who like TP are the same people who picked up Dark Souls and said "this is what LoZ should be"

Jizz that was well said ...I agree with you 100 percent ....release a home and handheld with the same architecture (alas Apple)but have curtain games made for home console and certain for handheld ( like Pokemon )...this would speed up release times for games because you can work on both systems at once (alas Smash and Sonic )

Still, the Wii's momentum helped a lot TP sales because the game was associated to the wii, some of the casuals were curious, jsut like it helped a lot Mario Kart, a lot more of course because of  the nature of the game.

4 -7ish from Western

From Ubi: Just Dance, Rayman, etc (family friendly)

From Acti: Skylanders, Transformers, "The Voice"

From WB: Disney Infinity

It's hard to guage with Namco, Capcom, Sega, Konami and other Eastern publishers.
