Forums - Nintendo - Will Nintendo finally fix their software output for Wii U in 2015?

Nope. There will still be noticeable droughts in 2015.

You cant compare a nintendo remake to a PS3 remake, a lot of gamers on PS4 hadnt PS3 so the sales were logical.

While most nintendo gamers had a GC or a Wii, so a remake  wont have the same effect than TLOU ( like we saw with WW HD)

Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword on the WiiU would easily outsell WWHD, and TP would probably outsell TLOUR. WWHD, arbuably, never needed a refresh as it still looks good even on the NGC, but SS and TP really aged poorly, and Twilight Princess is one of the most popular titles of the series because of its exposure on the Wii to the general public before the Wii "fad" ended.

Many people would pick these titles up because they actually gain a lot from an HD facelift unlike TLOUR/WWHD.

I'm sure we won't see a repeat of the droughts for 2015.

the same thing was said about this year, we were told by the likes of Iwata/Reggie that there would be no more droughts and in the first 8 months of this year we have gotten a total of 2 new 1st party games and a retail version of a digital game released last year.

I think this was a pretty good year. It's only going to get worse from now on. I can't even imagine what they will do in 2016.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

The real delays were last year. This year, things were probably more on schedule, but the problem was, there just weren`t any games.
That`s why DK was moved to February. If they hadn`t delayed the game, you would have 5 full months with no 1st, 2nd or any real 3rd party game.
I don`t think that even the N64 was in such a dire state in it`s 2nd full year on the market.

My guess is that, Nintendo, a couple years ago, imagined a whole different situation in terms of release schedules. They thought that Wii U would take off and that 3 parties would pick up the slack as they directed their resources to the 3DS - which had a great year, last year (not a coincidence).

I believe they will release Splatoon, Yoshi WW and Mario Maker in the first half. Not so sure PG Robot will release anytime soon. The game seemed far, far behind the others in terms of development.
To fill that hole, they will probably release MP10 or another remake.
Also, we europeans will have Captain Toad in January!

As for the second half, i see all of them coming out in time and anothe remake arriving aswell if sales do catch on.

They will be done with the WiiU by late 2016, Iwata promised support for the WiiU to the point where those who supported Nintendo and the WiiU got a good, worthwhile experience with what Nintendo can/could offer. Unless Splatoon turns out to be the second coming, they will be phasing it out by 2016 with a slow trickle of left over titles (might as well give all their developers some HD development experience) and prepping 2017 E3 reveal/release of their combined architecture.

Probably not. I think Nintendo will buy more developers and will hopefully fix it for their next console

well like Nintendo has hinted at a few times now, im expecting them to fully unify their handheld and home consoles next gen to the point that both peices of hardware are nearly identical and will play all the same games as one another.

With the increase of developement time/costs for HD games (im also assuming it takes quite a bit more time/money to develop for 3DS compared to previous handhelds) Nintendo can no longer give strong support to two completely different peices of hardware and this would get even worse next gen as time/costs continue to increase.

The best solution is to unify these devices and essentially focus all their attention on one platform. Also this ensures that Nintendo's next console has all the hardcore Japanese 3rd party support and child-friendly western support that Nintendo handhelds are use to getting.

Well... The whole unification into one console is a bad concept/idea imo cause if its fails, they are royally fucked. Like for example, right now, the wiiU is selling terribly but the 3ds is selling very nicely so it evens out the losses. (Obviously not like even even but you get what I mean) Vs, if they have one device and it fails, well, for the next 5 years, they will not be making any money at all which is really bad. Sure, you could say, oh, one platform = more games and that is a valid point but it also results in higher risk cause if the platform isn't appealing, then good luck. Specially since that if you make it a portable console, like a tablet, well, it will be very underpowered compared to the ps5/x2 just cause it wont have the power requirement. And if you make it a console, well then u have places like Japan where they seem to hate buying consoles. (Those are just examples btw, there are many other reasons as well)

What they should do instead is do what they have always been doing and just do a console & handheld. The only difference this time around should be that they are the same architecture, just the handheld version will be lower powered! That way, all they should really have to do in order to port it is have lower graphics and there shouldnt really be that much recoding involved and this way, they dont have to rely on one SKU to be a success

3DS is Standard Definition so its cheap as dirt with regards to graphical fidelity once you have knowledge of how the 3D rendering works.

Once they unify their architecture, they can produce for both channels simultaneously with every single release, so even if the dev times go north (which they obviously have), they will still have a higher output.

ya i know 3DS is much cheaper to make games for than HD consoles, im just saying its likely more expensive/time consuming to make 3DS games than it is to make GB/GBC/GBA/DS games. But ya unifying there devices is the best way to ensure a high software output.

That would be damn sad if they dont even release a 3D Mario on Wii U

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

People often credit the delays with HD issues. I'm sure they had some awareness of the HD issues other companies faced and I'm sure it wasn't easy for them. But I wouldn't be surprised, considering the time scale of developing games, if much of there problems were due to having to divert resources to getting 3ds software out. Remember, the 3ds was also hit by huge software delays at first and that wasn't due to hd. There could have been a kind of roll over effect from 3ds to wii u.

We know Nintendo finally delivered in 2013 for the 3ds with an exceptional year. We're all hoping 2015 could be the same for the Wii U. Looking at the games announced it seems they might deliver. I hope and expect they're finally on top of there delays now... I had hoped that they would have had things sorted in 2014.
