Forums - Nintendo - Will Nintendo finally fix their software output for Wii U in 2015?

wii u is leaps and bounds above ps360. 3d world, mario kart, pikmin, bayonetta 2, zelda, xenoblade...

he posted with all the words about how nintendo "could have an installed base of 70 million (final) for its games to sell, instead of 7 million. it was as if 7 million was wii u's final ltd. that's why it was stupid.

by the end of the year, the naysayers will be pretty quiet with their sub 30 million predictions for wii u.

First of all, you need to actually read and comprehend what people are saying in their posts.

Define "leaps and bounds" better. Some games look nice on the Wii U, while many multi-plat games look worse. Looking at 2015 PS4/X1 games that are expressly built for the system and aren't cross-generation titles, there's a fairly large gap between the Wii U and the PS4/X1 (see: Final Fantasy XV). Since Nintendo won't give their actual specs (I wonder why), this is fairly subjective issue, but I'd say the Wii U is like the GameCube/XBox compared to the 360/PS3 being the PS2. Games like Rogue Squadron II and RE4 looked notably better on the GameCube vs. most PS2 games, but no one would consider it a generational leap.

My point with the Fusion analogy is if this generation was a "Fusion" generation, then Nintendo would have a wider base to sell many of their "console" projects to. The 3DS today has 44 million shipped units, the Wii U only has 7 million. If that were combined under a Fusion umbrella strategy that would mean a game like Bayonetta 2 would have a userbase of about 45-46 million (assuming some overlap between the two products). I don't think you're dumb enough to argue against that since it's pretty basic math. That's all I was saying about that.

Every year there's one "hero poster" here who is die-hard about the Wii U is going to finish within 30-40 million LTD even though it's tracking way below the GameCube and that only finished at 22 million. In my experience on this board, that person is usually the one who's gone and stops posting in about 8-12 months, not the other way around.

We've heard it all on this board "wait for Pikmin and Wonderful 101! Then sales will explode!", then "Wait for Wii Party U, Zelda: WWHD, and Mario 3D World! Sales will explode!", then "wait for DKC, sales will pick up!", then "wait for Mario Kart 8, sales will definitely peak", but really at no one point has the system ever outsold the GameCube for any sustained stretch. In almost 2 years on market, it's only had one or two months better than the GameCube in North America, and that was barely at that and it not performing well at all in Europe or Japan.

bolded: hahahahahahahhahaha You never stop trying to downplay wii u graphics. what's the point of using cross gen multiplats as an example for wii u and then comparing then with ps4/xone multis while ignoring wii u games that actually push graphics? FINAL FANTASY XV??? REALLY??? final fantasy fv is on parity with xenoblade X. xv pushes better looking characters, X pushes much bigger and filled areas.

bold 2: it's a terrible strategy regardless

bold 3: nope, only 3d world was called system seller. stop lying about people saying sales would explode with pikmin and w101. and mario kart 8 did it's job.

bold 1: If that's what you want to think go ahead. No point in even arguing this. You might want to do some research of TDP, die-size, and wattage, unless Nintendo is using magical Nintendium in their chip, a 33-watt chip is simply not going to be able to compete with a more modern 200 watt GPU that pumps out 1.8 teraflops of performance.

bold 2: Well it's not my strategy, get used to it though because I suspect in 2 years you'll do an about face and say what a great strategy it is after being shown the product.

bold 3: People have been saying the Wii U just needs games for sales to boost big time since day 1. It has gotten several big releases and each time there's been a modest boost followed by sales sinking back into the toliet again a month or two later. Case in point even with Mario Kart 8, GameCube outsold the Wii U overall for the equivalent summer (summer 2003 vs. summer 2014) even though the GameCube had no notable releases for this period.

Nope. There will still be noticeable droughts in 2015.

Why do you say that, the lineup from E3 alone is good by itself, and there is also games that have not been announced, just from E3 alone was have in 2015 Zelda, Star Fox, Splatoon, Xenoblade, Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, and Mario Party 10, that is MUCH better than 2013 and 2014

They need to buy Indie devs to make them Sports games since EA won't make them. They had REALLY good SPORTS games for SNES, N64, and even the GC...

Also they REALLY need to start REMAKING a lot of their games... The Last of Us Remake for PS4 sold over 1 million COPIES and it was a Remake of an ALREADY HD GAME!!! WTF!! You think people won't buy Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Majora's Mask, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and like even some of their SNES Classics like Super Metroid, A Link to the Past, Chrono Trigger, and Earthbound remastered?? They'd make a TON of money from this... I would even say this can sway the Wii U in a positive direction by A LOT!

You cant compare a nintendo remake to a PS3 remake, a lot of gamers on PS4 hadnt PS3 so the sales were logical.

While most nintendo gamers had a GC or a Wii, so a remake  wont have the same effect than TLOU ( like we saw with WW HD)

The Wind Waker is one, if not THE least favorite Zelda for fans of the series. But yet the Remake still sold over a Million copies world wide. And we are not counting Digital Downloads that came with the console.

If you can make an arguement saying that most people that bought the Last of Us Remastered didn't have PS3, you can say the same for people with Wii  and Wii U's. It's like saying Sony fans aren't loyal to their consoles.

And I know PLENTLY of people who would buy remakes of both those Zelda games... Me Included.

Not sure what makes you think WW is one of the least favorite Zelda, i hear the opposite from most fans who think TP is the worst of the serie. ( and TP didnt sell so much compared to WW , at the opposite when you compare the install base of both consoles 22M vs 100M )

No, you didnt understand it seems, i said a lot of PS4 gamers had no PS3 because they were not  all sony fans, only gamers, 30% were jsut people who had a 360 or a Wii, while Nintendo consoles are bought by nintendo fans and nintendo fans buy all nintendo consoles so it's logical to say the game will sell more because it wont be a new game for most of them.

But TP was a launch title, it didn't have 100 mill users to sell it with. Wind Waker was supposed to move units for the GC but failed.

WW is one of the least popular Zelda's because at the time Nintendo lied to us. They said their next generation Zelda was going to look like this:

But instead we got Wind Waker. It looks like a damn Kiddie game to this day! Lots of Zelda fans felt this was a smack to the face (including me). Even though Wind Waker was and still is a great game, I would say it's still on the bottom in terms of Zelda games. I finished it and I don't really remember it much besides it's fantastic combat system and final battle. Many of my friends that had OOT reserved a copy of WW and never picked it up... It was like 2 people out of 7 ratio in my group. It's still the least selling Zelda game that premiered first on any console (Skyward Sword and Majora's Mask were sequels and weren't the first on the Wii and N64 respectively, so I didn't include them. Plus they came out when both cycles of their consoles were at it's end).

TP was one of the reasons why people bought a Wii initially. Nobody was lining up to buy a GC for WW. Hell nobody is still lining up to buy a Wii U for WW 12 years later. Even though it did boost up sales a bit last year, but people didn't feel like its a "must have" or a"console buyer". Plus, all my friends that bought Ocarina of Time bought a Wii JUST TO PLAY TP!! ALL of them!! That's because it finally looked like that game above!!! They all loved it too! Some are still telling me to play it cause I bought it at release date and never played it!

If you ever see a remake of TP and SS, I guarantee they'll sell more. Then you will see a difference. We would love to be in a world where people don't pay attention to silly things like "this game looks kiddie" and just pay attention to the gameplay, but that's not how things work.

Sad that you and your friends judge a game by it's art style

I don't. I still liked the Wind Waker. Hell I was one of the few who bought the Wii U to play it again! I bought it for GC too! But I guess the bad taste was still in my mouth at that time. I don't really remember the game like a Ocarina of Time, Link's Awakening, or a Link to the Past.

I also finished the Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass, and the Spirit Tracks and they are all based off the Wind Waker's look. I loved those Zelda's! Those left a better impression on me than WW, call me crazy but they did. And I know those Zelda get hella Hate... (don't understand why).

As for my friends, they are more casuals so I can't speak for them. Yeah its sad, but that's the gaming world we live in.

To me there is not a drought in the first place. I mean how many games do people need? I have more than enough to buy for 2015 already, granted I jumped in a year later but still.. Yet to pick up DKC, Just got Batman Arkham City and Mass Effect 3, still working on AC4 and Rayman, Mario Kart.. Will probably buy Zombi U, Wonderful 101. Smash later this year. Next year I'll have Yoshi, Kirby, Splatoon, Star Fox, Zelda, Xenoblade, DQX if they ever localize it. I'll probably buy Watch Dogs once it's budget priced. And that doesn't include the indie stuff. And I still have PC and Xbox 360 stuff to get.. I basically have 20 games in the span of a year to burn through on the Wii U alone, and that's not including the inevitable games from now until about E3 that can still be released next year that have yet to be revealed..

Nope, its not simply about having 1 game per month. Its about having several to cater to various different tastes. The assumption that everything Nintendo appeals to everyone with a Nintendo system is false. Hence why most of their output which doesn't have the name mario in the title has flopped.

im not really sure what anything u wrote has to do with this thread, never did i say in the OP that Nintendo needs to release a game each month or that all Nintendo games appeal to all Nintendo fans. All im asking is in 2015 will we see Nintendo stop having 3-4 month gaps between major 1st party titles outside of the holiday quarter?

I was just adding my two cents. Even if Nintendo managed a game per month, as I believe they've targeted I still don't think that will eleviate the sense of software problems.

But more specific to what you were asking, it will be better but its hard to be hopeful until they announce at least 1 title for Q1.
