Forums - Gaming - After Watch Dogs, Titanfall, and Destiny, is 2014 the Year of Too Much Hype?

They were all three advertised as new and innovative. That's why so much hype was around them.

No. Not everyone was hyped. The majority were probably thinking, "Damn, I hope they are good games," which of course they all are. New IPs at least. maybe not great, but bitching is not my style, yo.

thank God one person gets it!

Another point: 2nd games always FAR exceed the first (Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, etc.) so we will see with these sequels

never say always.  DMC2, Jak 2, Lords of Shadow 2, LoZ2, Resistance 2, MGS2, and many others have more beloved originals.  Oh and the American version of SMB2 of course.

You don't have to worry! Smash always lives up to the hype!

Yeah, I'm feeling that overhyped games are going to be this gen's standard, even worse than last gen, which sucks because that says that all you have to do to sell a game is put most of a game's budget into marketing and leave nothing for actual development of a good game. That doesn't seem healthy for the quality of the industry as a whole (at least to me).

This guy has an avatar with Bayonetta on it and he's still talking about overhype. Guy, you know Bayonetta share this same particularity ? 2 screenshots of the games and Wii U owners went shit, even when the first one was a meh Beat'em all. No lie, I appreciate it because I'm open minded, but clearly it was meh.

Your opinion is definitely in the minority. Many/ Most people who´ve played it consider it one of the best character action games ever made alongside DMC 3&4. Even the critics loved it (not that I give a damn about reviews) with a metascore of 90 .

So it´s not all that surprising that people anticipate a sequel. Compare that to games that promised the world (Destiny and Watch Dogs)....and delivered "ok" games at most.

For me, honestly, this is what the entire 7th gen felt like. But yes; hype is distorting the way we view end products.

i ignore hype and i dont see why anyone buys into it, destiny had a beta, as did battlefield hardline where you can go on and make your own mind up. surely anybody paying this amount of money for games deosn't do it on hype alone.

I have no rwespect for these so called gaming journalists anyway and this is why i read forums like these, because gamers like myself opinions are worth a lot more.

Well played sir; you are correct for all of the above.

I fail to see how Titanfall was overhyped.

Everybody knew it was MP only, which is a niche genre. It was never going to be the new Halo or COD. Great reviews and take out the agenda fanboy reviews, the user score would be in the 7/8 range.

Watch Dogs was destined to suck. Ubisoft are masters of deception by now. The delays and clear downgrades should have warned people of this. Destiny was destined to suck the second they were brought by Activition.
