Forums - Gaming - After Watch Dogs, Titanfall, and Destiny, is 2014 the Year of Too Much Hype?

Doesn't every year has its overhyped games? Here are the overhyped games of 2015

The Order, Bloodborne, Tomb Raider, UC4, MGS5, SW:BF, The Division, Evolve, The Witcher, Silent Hills and other stuff.

Have you played titanfall?

Funny, as others have mentioned, it managed to be the highest critically acclaimed title gets the most flak. Infamous was hyped quite high as well and wasn't as well rated at metacritic. It should be included in the conversation, surely.

lol no one called Infamous the game of the generation or a game that was going to pull everyone in, so no reason to mention it. And no i haven't, which is why i was mentioning it's performance sales wise.

The gotg thing was a joke... For the millionth time. We, well, one specific user started calling it that as a joke and others jumped in on the action. If it was taken seriously, that wasn't our issue. It's quite obvious, really.

You think 2 million sales on an install base of 4 million when released to 5 million now for a new IP is bad?

Almost as hilarious as taking the gotg seriously, almost.

Now that the game underperformed and haven't made X1 catch on fire on the charts you claim it is a joke... several MS supporters were quite rampant on how the game would be great and make X1 overtake ps4, we had like 4 threads a day for 1 month talking about it, and it wasn't just 1 person saying it was GOTG (J_Allard), several other have used the monicker and really supported it.

You actually read my post... Right?

Several xbox fans determined the bar of success or failure sales wise of a game?

Mate, we aren't that important. Thanks, though.

Each year the hype goes up because of the constant state of one-ups-man-ship (yes I put too many hyphens, meh) in advertising and gaming. Hell, car commercials used to explain features, now they just show explosions and cars. That is the direction we are going in; seeing very little of what has substance and being fed only what makes it seem revolutionary - even when it is really just a decent game trying to make minor improvements on previous attempts.

Every year certain games are hyped.People are just realizing this now and use reviews to buy a game?God!!! People are so lazy and slow :/

Yes I read. No they haven't put a number on it, just that it would make x1 pass ps4 and be first ww. So seeing it never came close it was overhyped in this part.

Every year has over hyped games, nothing new.
It only stands out more as either;
-Gamers are starting to get smarter
or
-Lack of big releases causes these few to stand out more

I would like to say the first option, but its probably the latter....

Not to stir the pot, but I wonder if all 3 would have been better if they remained current gen only (PS4/XB1)

No. Not everyone was hyped. The majority were probably thinking, "Damn, I hope they are good games," which of course they all are. New IPs at least. maybe not great, but bitching is not my style, yo.

Another point: 2nd games always FAR exceed the first (Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, etc.) so we will see with these sequels

Titanfall was pretty much what I expected. Just lacked content. Still an 86% on Metacritic, very good.
It is a very fun game and the updates have made it so much better. I feel like if it released how it is today, then we'd be seeing even better reviews.
Vastly more fun than Destiny so far. And never played Watch Dogs as I thought it looked terrible prior to release.

Dunno why you guys over-hype games for yourselves so much.
It is not the media, it is YOU that over-hypes it. Don't get it twisted.
