TBH I dislike Microsoft because they devalued console gaming. Except the online play they have done nothing for console gaming. They should have stayed in PC and became the equivalent of valve. They nearly destroyed console gaming with DRM. They have very little cash and capable studios (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=125163689&postcount=7090) to made real exclusives. If they just stayed in PC it would be great for everyone.

Kinect is a very innovative piece of hardware; that's one thing. Backing DRM wouldn't have destroyed console gaming, and they weren't the only ones behind it. Microsoft throwing money around shoows they have little money and MANY studios have closed as of late. Why does the GAF poster single out Microsoft? They also currently have ninteen studios, most of which were created in the last couple of years. What is your definition of a "real" exclusive?

Its interesting how people view DRM because most seem to accept it when its their platform of choice.  For the PC, very few people really got up in arms that they cannot do to many things with their digital copy of games from Steam or Blizzard etc.  Its seems people have accepted that they cannot gift, trade, share etc.  Even on consoles, you cannot do any of those things.  You cannot gift, share, trade or resell your digital game.  So people are very comfortable or getting comfortable with this DRM.

So MS solution stated that you could do all of those things.  You could gift, trade, share your digital game.  The problem with MS system is that it tried to include physical games in that scenario.  In order to ensure that the system did not get abused which it would for physical games, MS implemented the 24 hour check.  Why was this check needed.  Because someone could purchase a game, install it on their X1, return the same game back to the retailer or give it to their friend, continue to play the game and get away with it.

If MS made the X1 all digital, then no one really would be complaining about the ability to Gift, sell, Trade, share your digital games because currently no online system allows you to do this.  MS was forced to market because Sony jump to market.  MS did not have this part fully in place so they floundered all over the place and their message was muddled.  You have to give it to Sony for catching MS with their pants down and took advantage of MS not being ready while they were.

So in my opinion we probably would today be able to perform all the things we can do today with physical games if MS had their stuff together but they did not and the incomplete message did not get a chance to get set because of the backlash.

There wasn't really a need, but the introduction of the option was positive.

When a PC game is 80% cheaper than its console counterpart, you don't need to share or trade, gifiting is something you can do online easily however. Even on Amazon.

Pffft.... They still got nothing on Sony...
The Last Guardian is so exclusive exclusive, it's not coming out on Playstation consoles either...

Wow, I literately lol'ed at that!

The level of technical babble is strong with Greenburg.  When asked about the SO coming to PS4, Greeburg said, "No need to worry about this one.  Its Exclusive, Exclusive" (whatever the hell exclusive means anmore.)

It basically means that they have exclusive rights to this single game.  Not the IP and not INsomiac. So, it could very well appear on PS4 as a sequel.

The check is not needed to solve this problem. In fact this problem is already solved today with game discs. You need to put the game disc in to play the game. So why not force the user to put the game disc in if they are not connected to the internet. You get the best of both worlds then, if you are connected to the internet, no need for a game disc. If you aren't, you can still play your games.

To me exclusive simply means "can only be played here". But we have to admit that things are different now and that that word has expanded. Now we have console, timed and platform exclusives....etc.

Exclusive DLC, Exclusive Pre Order deals, ecxlusive advertising, and now Exclusive Exclusive.  Oh yeah we also have the Larry Hyrb Exclusive (aka Full Nelson Exclusive).... this is when a game has none of the exclusive qualities listed but is said to be exclusive anyway such as with Metal Gear Solid 5 and the infamous only on Xbox One video with multiplat games showcased.  Its also commonly called a lie.

Exclusive exclusive is a game that won't come to PS4. The ones that won't go to PC are named Exclusive Exclusive Exclusive.

3DS, Wii, PSP, Vita, PS2, PS3, PS4 & Steam.

"Revolving?" Wazzat mean? Do you mean evolving?

.....woah.

That actually makes sense.

I think you're confused here.

DRM stands for Digital Rights Managment. The issue with what MS was planning was not because it was all digital, it was because the Digital Rights Management that came with it required your system to be Always Online for it to work. No Internet rendered your 500$ console into an expensive brick.

DRM is a necessity for Digital games, but since PC has been doing it for so long, they have made it more acceptable to consumers, low prices, offline DRM (like steam's), competition between GOG, Steam, Origin, Uplay, etc.

Monopolizing retail sales of full priced games that requires a persistent internet connection is a blantant ripoff, and cannot really be justified.

Not to mention, every retail game on the PS4 has a digital version, and its the same for the XB1 irc.

So no, DRM doesn't give you joy, and the justified backlash of MS's terrible blunder didn't only affect digital distrubution in a positive way.

That would be like complaining about having to go online to watch netflix or check your e-mails. It's a much more accepted process on the PC. Microsoft failed to understand the customer backlash because in their mind DRM is not limiting customers purchase and forcing them to go online. DRM is the future of console. Console of tomorrow will be the size of apple TV and use cloud storage and processing. Xbox one was meant to be a transition to this near future.

90% of music is bought digitally now .... that's what will happen with video game.  How many people buy, resell and exchange their music now a day ???

Xbox one was meant to be the first console that required a internet connection. Doing so enable many features and service that could not be done before. Your Xbox life account would no longer be locked to your xbox one but would you could login which ever Xbox one you had access. Playing your library at friends and relatives.

I was actually looking forward to this new DRM proposed by Microsoft and buying game digitally where most of the cost goes to the publisher and Microsoft rather than paying the 40-60% retail mark-up.
