Forums - Website Topics - When is VGChartz going to accept transsexuals?

Heck, VGC should get rid of post counts while they are at it, that way we can eradicate spammers who make shitty posts only to increase theirs. That would be much more beneficial to this site than something like gender changing.

:O But that's like the thing that makes VGC better than Neogaf!

When it comes to gaming discussion VGC isn't even close to GAF.

VGC only comes out ahead when it comes to financials and sales. Everything else here is full of spam shit.

My main problem with transgender rights is that a lot of them are reinforcing the gender binary that they claim to subvert.

There may be some true transgender people out there, whose brain chemistry causes them to feel like a female or male. And I wouldn't be able to understand that, just as straight people cannot understand being attracted to the same gender, and gay to the opposite.

But I think those make up a small number of transgender/transsexuals. Most are transgendered because they cannot reconcile their personality and society's expectations. e.g. I like shopping and dolls, but society says those traits are feminine, ergo I feel like a woman. I am biologically a man, but society tells me I am psychologically a woman, and must fix this.

I think the problem here, though, is the very notion of masculinity and femininity. The idea that certain traits must be masculine or feminine, that gender binary so many people talk about. Dolls are feminine, trucks are masculine, etc. etc. This does indeed need to change in society, that men and women should be able to like what they like, without society's notions of masculinity and femininity interfering. This has been happening for the past 50 years, with gay rights subverting these notions. It is feminine to like men, and masculine to like women. Well, that concept has certainly changed since the 1950s. But more stuff like that needs to change.

But then here comes transgendered rights. They feel like a woman, because society tells them they should feel like one, and so declare they are a woman and feel this is challenging society's notions of gender? I really don't see any logic here at all. If you like masculine or feminine stuff, it should be just that. You are a person that enjoys those things, and your sex or gender should not matter. Being a man, and liking feminine things, and declaring to the whole wide world that you feel like a woman, this is not progressive, it is regressive. It reinforces stereotypes, not subvert them.

what an absolutely annoying and inappropriate topic for a gaming site.
it's so frustrating to me how the LGBT community bang their
drums for equality and recognition while at the same time
constantly demanding preferential treatment.

if someone decides to cosmetically change their gender, that doesn't negate the natural fact of whether they're male or female.
why on earth should a site devoted to video games feel compelled to accommodate an individuals sexual preference or gender identification in that individual's profile?
there are plenty of other sites online devoted to those specifics.
this site is about pc's, consoles, and gaming.
the OP should be ashamed of himself for posting such a self-serving, obtrusive thread.

I see nothing wrong with a person identifying themselves with the opposite gender,
but this is entirely the wrong site to get vocal about it.

also, if a person needs or wants to change their gender identity, there is a myriad of things that need to change along with that decision; clothes, name, personal relations.... etc.. in other words, they become a new person.
so how about just making a new profile. seems fitting doesn't it?
what a simple solution for a non-problem.

No one is demanding anything besides equal rights. Basic human rights to be specific.

Being able to change your profile gender has what exactly to do with human rights or equal rights?

Site owner also has a right to have his site function however he so chooses or a right to choose whether or not to waste his time implimenting something that could be easily rectified with a new account creation. Why not respect that?

Equal rights?

O.K., well how about you define for me what is equal in the truest sense of the word, as opposed to the subjecitve version which has become twisted and used as a lightning rod for personal wars.

Here, let me explain it to you.

You can't demand equality but at the same time attempt to change the parameters with how that equality is applied.

Men are men, woman are woman.. that is as equal as you can get. If a person decides to cross those natural lines, then 'inequality' becomes an expected result of that decision. That can't be argued with or avoided.

Don't they just call themselves what ever they changed their gender to? Why is this suddenly a issue?

Read my example. My issue is that what if I sign up as a (confused) man, for example, but progress to identifying as a woman

Then just make a new account. Is your post count really that important? You say we should be able to change genders and later said we should be able to change names too. There is a solution for both. New account.

I am sure the site owner A. Won't see this thread and B. Has more important things he needs to worry about than gender changing on the forum.

It's not only the post count but also reputation, friends, wall posts, messages, tagged threads etcetera
