The big difference is that Halo MCC is not a remaster.  It's not just the original game upscaled to 1080p format, or actually, it does include the original graphics template so it does have the original game scaled to 1080p, but it also includes brand new graphics.  The Last of Us is just like the PS2 remasters, Ico, SotC, etc.  Same textures at a higher resolution.  The difference in The Last of Us picture below is hardly noticeable, while the Halo 2 comparison, being a full blown graphics enhancement, is like night and day.  The Halo 2 comparison is also comparing the MCC 1080p version of Halo 2, so the classic version is even 1080p instead of the 480p source material and it's still far and away better looking.

I gotta say... MCC puts all "remasters" in this gen to shame

How do you even expect the difference from TLOU to be so high if the game was released last year? It's not 2 decades of difference. There's no 'shame'. The game looks AMAZING. Obviously much better looking than the Halo 2 remastered since it's a more recent game.

I'm not saying that MCC won't be cool, my problem is how there's so much hate about TLOU remaster but Microsoft has a FREE PASS to remaster.
Let's not forget, TLOU remaster was a tremendous success and this debate it's old since daily there were topics saying how "Sony is being extorsive" but Microsoft "Oh yeah, these amazing games are back!".

Stop believing everybody played the game. Some came from 360 and wii and want to enjoy the game.
And as long as people tries to say that Sony is "this and that" but MS remaster it's ok... Then they are just being hyprocrite and are clearly in denial. Both are remaster, this is just a fact.

I am not expecting that level of difference from a one year old game but Sony could have chosen any other game to remaster and made look just as amazing in terms of noticable differences but no, instead, they chose a one year old game which is why it got some flack. I mean, its fine, I get it, not everyone has played it which is fine but that doesn't mean I am not gonna say how much more of a difference MCC has cause clearly, MS is putting a lot of work on their MCC and its showing it cause the level of difference in this looks amazing compared to the Last of Us or WWHD and MS really do deserve a lot of credit for it

Microsoft is putting a lot effort on MCC indeed and the game has GREAT value since it's a compilation of classics.
This has nothing in common with TLOU which was also a success, therefore justifying it's existence.

I never said TLOU shouldn't exist and isn't a success and its great that it is. I am just saying MCC has a lot more effort put into it

Why is LBP3 being mentioned?

Yes, I will finally be able to play Halo 1 on my Xbox 1! That is a Remaster at perfection!

Seriously though, I really don't care. I don't buy remasters of games I already have, but whoever is enjoying those games should have fun playing them. As long as there is enough new stuff, I can live with remakes, no matter what console. It's not like we're actually losing games because of it. Yeah sure, they could have developed something else with the time, bla bla, but I don't think that the main people of studios are doing remasters, probably just some junior talents. It's a great way for them to learn something, it's a great way for a studio to make some cash ), everybody wins! There's really nothing to complain about. If you don't want it, don't buy it, simple as that.

I don't care about Halo and I don't give two shits about Microsoft as a company, so I'm certainly not giving them a free pass.  The only reason they get a "pass" is because they actually put some work into their game.  It's not just a port or cross gen game with higher resolution, it's completely redone graphics.

If The Last of Us wasn't a remaster and was a remake, then there could have been a noticeable difference in quality.  The Last of Us is one of the best looking PS3 games, but compared to other games on the PS4 it doesn't look that great.  Look at Infamous 2 and compare that to Infamous Second Son.  If The Last of Us was a remake, that's the kind of jump in quality you would have seen.

Here's Wild ARMs on the PSX, and Alter Code F on the PS2, the following generation.  Imagine if they just touched up the image and released the exact same game at a higher framerate.  They didn't, so that really doesn't matter.

Being released a year later really doesn't have anything to do with it.  The fact that it's on a more powerful system and it's nothing more than an upscale is the point.  Every Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed releases one year later  than the previous game yet those look better with each release.  This was released on an entirely new system and there's hardly much of a noticeable difference with a resolution upgrade.  But of course.  Let's all just say that a remake is the exact same as a remaster.

The only free pass anyone is getting are all these damn companies releasing remaster after remaster while the apologists are using excuses that people didn't buy the game, etc, etc.  Well if anyone wanted to play the fucking game, then they would have bought it on the previous console.  If they don't have the console then they'd buy it.  That's the reason behind there being exclusives.  Hey.  This game is exclusive and I really want to play it.  Looks like I'll need to buy a PS3 because I don't have one.  Not.  Oh, I'll just wait until the PS4 version releases because every game on the PS3 is guaranteed to show up there sometime in the next seven years.

Yeah, Microsoft has really impressed me so far with MCC. It's looking to be one of, if not the, best remaster ever.

It's impressive how much effort they put into remastering Halo 2 for the MCC!
