Forums - Sony Discussion - People Are Complaining About The Anime Schoolgirl Sony Used To Demo Its VR Headset

"After criticizing the way women are portrayed in mainstream video games."

So...why don't they start at the route cause of how women dress themselves in society today?
I see absolutely nothing wrong with the video that I just watched. More and more lead female characters are making it into video games and now people want to start complaining about how they dress?
As of right now, there are more female video gamers today than there has ever been. So if they don't want girls in skirts, then there shouldn't be guys without shirts on or tank tops in video games too!

They couldn't find a correlation between shooters and gun violence. Now they are attacking how women are portrayed? If you try to please them and just take out female characters from video games, then they would complain that we are sexist. Cut me a break....

women should have the right to dress how they please barring extreme circumstances such as complete nudity

why did you focus on criticising women's dress?

This is a global reveal albeit in japanese. I'm not sure this kind of game is a good way to introduce the system to the world.

Women have a legitimate reason to be upset about this, the female sex is constantly under attack and this is just one form of objectification.

I'm not making this up, and though I'm not a woman I know this is a fact about our world.

Though this excerpt is about Feminism and pornography, it still applies here to a game or demo where there is a heavy emphasis on ogling a young schoolgirl.

Because isn't that where the criticism comes from? There's plenty of posts in this thread about what she's wearing and how it's weird or creepy.

@bren

Namco created Idolm@ster, of course they got some of the devs loving the series.

OT.  Can you have sex with her?

If no. Why are people complaining?

If yes. Why are people complaining?

Because it's cool to complain about fucking everything!

You can't stop creepy people from being creepy. Why even waste time getting upset over this? Just don't buy the game.

though i agree with the sentiment 'if you don't like it, don't buy it', what exactly was so creepy about it? i'm dumbfounded

When you stare at meryll's boobs in metal gear solid, it's all fun and games, stare at digital boobs in 2014 and you're basically a rapist.

That's the thing though... Girls dressed in schoolgirl outfit is a VERY common erotic fantasy for many men (and some women too). This is a virtual girl... a non existing person. No matter what you see or do to her will ever affect anyone in reality. I have fapped to a huge amount of women dressed as schoolgirls in porn... heck, I love when my gf dresses like that. So how exactly does it affect anyone else how I or milions of other people might enjoy eroticizing a virtual character in such outfit!?

A person would need to be seriously repressed to not only feel put off by that, but also to fight other people's enjoyment for whatever reason of a VIDEOGAME.

A sex fantasy/fetish doesn't become gross or sick just because it's not one that you prefer. As long as no actual person is being hurt what concern is it of anyone where we look or what turns anyone else on?

Would it be worse if she was dressed as a nurse, teacher, nun, waitress, maid? Would it matter if the tables were turned and it was a guy acting sexy and there was sexual inuendo in the game?

I think it's the idea of a 40 year old man buying this game just so they can be in a schoolgirl's bedroom.

well... it's not a schoolgirl, it's a virtual schoolgirl right? the voyeuristic and taboo nature of it is exactly why such things should stay in FANTASY. it's a safe outlet to explore such things much like erotic stories or movies. Some people argue that videogames are art. Those same people then come and try to censor this said art making stupid dramas and protests against an artist or it's work if it's not to their own individual taste. Reminds me of the Dragon's Crown controversy last year where keyboard warriors would go on tirades because one character's proportions of waist-hips-chest wasn't 'realistic'. Mind you all the characters had exagerated proportions and would be drawn in a clear cartoonish way.

anyway... sorry about the rant, just felt like venting :)

I think you misunderstand me, i'm not being conservative here, im merely pointing out how stupid the situation has got.

To be fair. both women and men have object like characteristics.

We should neither be shaming women for being sexual or men for being open about their sexual desires.

sorry, I might not have made myself clear among the rant, I was just trying to further your point. I understood you weren't presenting the objection but only illustrating the hyprocrisy of it. we do agree on it for sure :)
