Forums - Gaming - I don't know why people think Smash will do wonders for the Wii U.

I'm really confused by all the comments asking for proof as to why we think it will be a system seller. There is no proof to be given. The only thing you can judge it on is hype, what type of people own/don't own a Wii U, and the past. It will sell systems, guaranteed. It's a big title that always sells well and it will continue to. People love this game and will buy a Wii U for it. Can you give me proof as to why you think Halo 5 will be a system seller? Exactly. All you would do is show me past sales of Halo games, which is what everyone on this thread has already shown all the people asking.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Lol all 3 Smash games are in the top 10 selling fighting games, 2 are in the top 3, never realized. I play competitive fighters and funny enough was never into Smash until recent years, it's probably the hardest fighting game at the highest level, no random player is going to beat a good Smash player.

what about random item help or crazy maps?

Thats why competitive take off items and ban certain maps

Im a competitive player but its still cool to play with itms on (especially pokemon only @.@

awe that's dumb the randomness is the best part it evens the playing field.  I feel like it would just be spamming and cautiousness at these competitions.

Well it depends on what u mean by do wonders. Will it cause sales to go through the roof and dominate the competition? Not likely. Will it help Wii U sell better than last year and give it a strong holiday? Most likely.

Whether or not the game is bigger than Mario Kart is irrelevant, that's like saying only GTA or COD can help PS/Xbox sell better because they are the biggest games on those consoles.

What'll save Wii U

New Name

Gamepadless SKU

and Smash+Zelda

I don't really think that a GamePad-less SKU would help that much.. More aggrive marketing, on the other hand, would certainly help!

Mario Kart is Nintendo's biggest franchise and has almost 3 times the fanbase of Smash and Mario Kart Wii U sold only 2.5 million.  What makes you think it will give the Wii U a significant boost? Despite there being almost no games for xbox and ps4 during the summer (also known as the summer drought) it couldn't beat ps4 and it did slightly better than xbox one.  I don't understand why some people are thinking it help Wii U out sell Xbox One during the holidays when Xbox One and PS4 releases are Fifa, Destiny,COD, MCC, Forza, Sunset Overdrive, Unity, Far Cry 4,Drive Club ,little big planet and more. Not only this, but North America Favors Xbox and Playstation and North America buys the most products during the holidays. Maybe I am missing something.

I think you're failing to realize that MK8 isn't done selling. Nitendo games in general tend to have longer "legs" than most other games, and MK is no exception. Do not be suprised at all if it has already reached 3 million by the time Black Friday rolls around, and even 4 million by the end of the year. Depending on how things go, it may even sell more than that, you never know. It, and the Wii U, absolutely will get a major holiday sales boost, regardless.

And Smash Bros. is going to sell very well on Wii U, regardless. I think it will help Wii U's sales, it and MK8 make a nice one-two punch. And quite frankly, IF this new Zelda lives up to the potential it has, along with big releases like Devil's Third, Xenoblade Chronicles X, SMT x FE, Splatoon, etc. coming next year, I think the momentum can absolutely be maintained for the next couple years, IF Nintendo advertises way better, and IF they play their cards right.

And changing the name now wouldn't make much sense imo.

It would confuse the people even more! Especially after MK8 the Wii U got more positive news and recognition, so why would you change it now!?

Yeah.. At this point, only Amiibo and aggressive marketing can do something big for the WiiU... :S

Well I am going to buy one just for SSB whenever they decide on a RELEASE DATE.

Seriously, we don't even know if it will be ready in time for this holiday.

Nintendo shuld clarify when inSept (direct maybe?). I dont think it'll be delayed solely to the fact of amiibos. Pre orders just opened up for them.

Oh yeah, I forgot about those. That should be a good confirmation.  Besides even if it doesn't come out this year I'll still pick up the 3DS version.

It's actually quite deep, the are a lot of mechanics to grasp in Smash and all these are on top of each character's attributes, unlike other fighting games characters in Smash are down to the player's style a lot more then just playing the character in a more set out approach which further adds to it. Smash 4 has upped the defensive side of things so a defending player can punish moves a lot better.
