He isn't wrong though.
Smash never was about the story, it's a competitive fighting game. It isn't supposed to have a great story.
Oh and "lack luster gameplay"? Millions of fans speak against that.

I agree with you on those 2 games, but the "new" stuff they had are no where close to what the difference between Smash Bros U / 3DS will be.
Bayonetta as far as i know only has new costumes. That's nearly nothing new! You can't compare that to different modes, stages and much more.

I think it's the fact that every character has unique attacks. Street Fighter characters were less unique and it was amazing that way!!!!!! That's why every street fighter game sold more than smash bros and all got 40/40 on famitsu.
Smash is the most popular fighting game in the world. It's also on a system that offers virtually nothing in the genre. There's currently no reason for a fighting game fan to own a Wii U. Smash changes that and opens the Wii U to an entirely new audience. So that's why people are excited for Smash, it's the world's most popular fighting game series and the only way you'll get to experience on a home console is the Wii U. It's going to pull a disproportionately large number of hardware sales compared to anything else Nintendo could release, because its core audience has so little overlap with the current Wii U audience.
On the topic of Mario Kart 8, it's not done selling yet. It almost single handedly doubled Wii U sales, and continues to sell well even so long after its release. The Support Nintendo is giving it is also amazing. A large new DLC pack and an amazing MK8 bundle for the holidays is just going to make it surge again for the holidays.
