Forums - Nintendo - Why so much hate for the "New" Nintendo 3ds???

DialgaMarine said:
Sorry if you mentioned this in the OP or if people have said it a million times, but it's because Nintendo has essentially alienated the almost 45 million people who have already bought a 3DS by making a model that has the same price and hardware, but still somehow gets exclusive games. If there were exclusive features for it, that's be one thing, but exclusive games is basically them saying "Hey we know you purchased one already to play all 3DS games, but f*ck you, buy another".

I know this is the same business model that Smartphones have been using for years, but they've been seeing success because they're dedicated to many different fuctionalities, versus the 3DS which is dedicated strictly to gaming.

Uhh. Its not the same hardware, that why it "somehow" gets exclusives because they wouldn't work on the old hardware.

Game Boy Color

DSi

Gameboy Color was the next gen leap from the original gameboy, and DSi never got any major exclusive software outside of some mini games and apps on e-Shop.

So, this is Nintendo's next gen handheld, meaning the 3DS only lasted 3 years?

No, its a hardware refresh as they have done in every generation for the last twenty years.

This isn't their next gen handheld the jump is too small for that distinction. The Color was not a next generation handheld, either, it was a hardware refresh with color... and was replaced two years later by the GBA. The GBA was replaced three years later by the DS.

I hate it because it follows the smartphone model. Release a phone with just enough upgrades for it to be "better" and cut off support for the older phones so people have to upgrade. I am not going to buy this because I know that its only going to last for 2-3 years and will be replaced by Nintendo next handheld.

I have seen a shit storm of complaints about this. There are always people complaining when Nintendo makes announcements, they cannot catch a break.

This is nothing new though. DSI had a couple exclusives during the DS generation, and Gameboy color also had some exclusives during the Gameboy generation (Donkey Kong Country, Wario Land 3, Pokemon Crystal, Mario Bros Deluxe...

I for one am excited for it!

Um, that would be the GBA

It's a brilliant product no doubt! I just don't like the idea of excluding content from current 3ds owners. :(

Hopefully, Nintendo will do the sensible thing and only release exclusive titles that couldn't have run on the old hardware of a 3DS, like Xenoblade. I can't imagine they'd do it any differently though, considering how many Game Boy Color games were still compatible with the original Game Boy.

People only dislike it (at least from what I can tell) because it has its own exclusives without being a new generation of hardware, meaning that early adopters of the 3DS are punished severely.

I don't think people really care about Xenoblade, it's more about the knowledge that future games will be coming which are exclusive to the new 3DS as well.

EXACTLY THIS.

also this video shows exactly the confusion that the name "NEW 3DS" will create:

wich by the way is also the exact same thing i was saying on another thread
